POV[edit]

The man may be a worthless or despicable person, to paraphrase many dictionaries, but we still need to be neutral about him! Rich Farmbrough. 18:58, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rich, I was the original editor who really fleshed out the article some yesterday. I was just writing from my memory about the guy so I didn't really go through to comb out the NPOV. Thanks for the copyedits. Note - this guy is really considered scum in Aus (he is a national celebrity for his antics) -- this should be reflected in the article. novacatz 03:31, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Trading costs[edit]

Perhaps it might be worth mentioning the cost of selling shares? For example I am the proud possesor of 7 shares in a leading UK company. Were I to sell them through a trditional broker, I would end up out of pocket. I don't know what the AU situation is. Rich Farmbrough. 19:05, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The situation would be the very similar. Note that the parcels of shares that Tweed targets (being the demutualisation proceeds) generally would be around the A$800-A$3000 mark. This is certainly enough to defeat any trading costs for him. I don't think trading costs is an important part of this case, but you are welcome to add it if you feel important (but note, I just might edit it out if it isn't! <g> <g> <g>) novacatz 03:29, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some interesting info...[edit]

... see this ASIC press release. - Ta bu shi da yu 16:07, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In the news again...[edit]

More news, since he is currently targetting New Zealand shareholders of Tower Corporation. It seems likely that he has been (to some extent) successfully regulated against in Australia. I can provide a (slightly obscured, but open licensed) scan of an offer document I received today. Some URLs I have found, which aren't referenced currently. Also I notice that a bunch of the existing ones are no longer retrievable :-(

Anyway, some more background which is retrievable:

My wife just got a letter of offer for IAG shares. $2.20 per share when they should be $4.45 per share. Scumbags. - 220.237.19.227 (talk) 09:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wholesale revisions to this article[edit]

I notice that there were a lot of changes to this article in the following edit. The history note indicates that the editor feels that the article is biased. However, he or she has removed the information from the Herald Sun about his family publicly distancing themselves from him, etc. All of that is sourced, and fairly important to understand the individual.

Could we have some discussion before these changes are made? Each objection should really be brought up here for discussion. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 21:51, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree in the main with these wholesale revisions, but things like calling him "notorious" were probably POV and deserve to go. Lankiveil (speak to me) 23:22, 18 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]
Agreed - I see you made the changes, thank you :-) Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 12:55, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the editor has done another revert. If they could come to the talk page to discuss their concerns, that would be great! - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:30, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a note to their user talk page. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 13:32, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We seem to have more wholesale edits without discussion, from a newly created account. I have reverted - many of these changes are an attempt to look better. Not really NPOV. I encourage discussion and explanation of why the editor feels that these changes should be made. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 14:35, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that the editor is working under a new account. I have asked them to join this talk page. - Tbsdy lives (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:21, 13 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The editor is continuing to refuse to discuss these changes. I will revert the changes until discussed here. Gillyweed (talk) 23:16, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've taken them to WP:AN3. Silly really, all they have to do is discuss their concerns here. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 06:41, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Hopefully full protection will force discussion. See my AN3 comments here. NJA (t/c) 08:46, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. - Tbsdy (formerly Ta bu shi da yu) talk 21:23, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Legislation being introduced to stop these bottom feeders[edit]

Looks like these bottom feeders will soon not be able to access share registers. See this note from the Senate Economics Legislation Committee on the Corporations Amendment (No. 1) Bill 2010. Here's hoping this passes! - 114.76.239.105 (talk) 22:15, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

David Tweed's name[edit]

According to one revision of this article, after urging by "his former boss, he changed his surname to Tweed, after he was promoted to the trading room, under the belief that it would assist his career as people had difficulty on pronouncing his name". Furthermore it says that "This name was incidentally the same name as a business journalist and sharemarket analyst who had temporarily left Australia to work in Europe. While contemplating the name change another former boss Peter Canet suggested he change his name to David Texas."

The cited article is here. I'll quote it verbatim, if you can see where any of this information above comes from the below you have a different way of comprehending text than I!

But who is David Tweed? Like the names of the companies he uses, it was chosen to add an air of respectability. Sydney widow Joan Stobo, 79, told the Magistrate's Court she would not have expected a man with such an English name using old English characters on the company letterhead to swindle her.

Classmates at Essendon Grammar in the early 1980s, however, remember only David Tschernitz, the son of an Austrian migrant from Williamstown, who was always on the hustle for a dollar. "He was known as a bit of a prick then and nothing has changed," said former student David Childs.

He was still using the name Tschernitz when he started work as a runner for a stockbroking firm, but his former boss, Peter MacLaren, told The Age two years ago that he changed his name to Tweed when he was promoted to the trading room because he thought it would help his career.

It transpired that he had assumed the name of a former business journalist and later sharemarket analyst who returned from an extended working stay in Europe to discover his reputation tarnished and the Australian financial services community reluctant to return his calls.

As you can see, the article says none of the above. - 114.76.239.105 (talk) 13:18, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
