The only proof that Lucas isn't Blum is the letter to the fans. Until there is concrete proof, such as a video of both of them talking in the same room, then it is prudent to assume that they are the same person trying to ride the fence and do both union and non union work.

I believe they're the same guy. You can get into some trouble I hear from doing non-union work and so Steven Blum must go under aliases. The fan letter is really the only thing I've seen as proof that they are two different people. I believe Steven must've written the letter in order to further push the idea that they're two people. Plus, in the Cowboy Bebop Movie interview Steven Blum talks about his character, Spike, as if he's worked on it a lot. It seems unlikely he would become so attached to the character from just voicing in the movie. So really I think the letter isn't hoaxed, it's really written by David Lucas (David Lucas being Steven Blum), it's just that he isn't telling the truth. --681dragon 00:29, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Secrecy from the SAG[edit]

You need to consider that Steven Blum is not going to go out and say, or even admit openly, that he is David Lucas. If he did, he would get in quite a deal of trouble, and could be expelled. Stating that David Blum is a friend of his is a secure and valid story to cast doubt about whether he is or isn't David Lucas, and therefore, affords him safety despite working on non-SAG projects. It's not inconcievable that Steven Blum himself could have written the aforementioned letter under his alias to cast continued doubt and remedy suspicion over this issue. Stating that Lucas has early, unfavorable experiences with zealous fans gives the reason why he's never been seen. But if we consider this statement, it implies that not only did David Lucas experience some degree of celebrity and fan worship at a time when he did make appearances, and that he has had experience at cons or with fans and has thus appeared. Given this, shouldn't there be several fans, people, and staff of such an event(be that where it occured), that remember seeing him and know he is not Steven Blum? If these people are zealous enough fans to create an "uncomfortable experience", it would be logical to assume they would follow his exploits, and hear of the dispute over whether he is an alias or real. So, shouldn't we have some actual first-hand accounts from people that have seen Lucas in person and know he is different?

Furthermore, there is very little, if any, noticable difference between Spike's voice in Cowboy Bebop the series, and the movie. There isn't even any change in style or anything, which one might attribute to a different actor, even if they are trying to emulate a previous voice talent. To believe Steven Blum and David Lucas are different people, we have to assume not only is David Lucas a person who can do an impression of Blum so well, that it cannot be distinguished from the original, but that conveinently, these two people know each other, and are even close friends.

Seems like, but...[edit]

This seems alot like the name thing for Yoko Kanno. Everyone says she's Garbiella Robin and pretty much accepts that she is, but there is no actual solid proof one way or another. If Steve Blum is David Lucas great, but as long as he keeps up with roles we can appreciate why argue about it? ... maybe coincidently, (and for those who dont know) Yoko Kanno was the composer for most (if not all) of the music in Cowboy Bebop.
