Stand-alone article?

I'm a little pessimistic about prospects for this as a stand-alone article. Let's say we take out all coverage about the individual markets; is there enough about the concept "darknet markets" in the general sense to create a good article? I'm skeptical, and have to suspect that's why the present article is just a WP:DICDEF. If fleshed out, I'm worried it'll turn into a mishmash of content from the Silk Road, Evolution, et al. articles. What about merging this into a new section at Black market? — Rhododendrites talk \\ 23:32, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to limit the discussion to markets on Tor/I2P etc, rather than focus on their legality. It's not complete yet obviously Deku-shrub (talk) 09:18, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Of course there is! Actually someone from the German Wiki asked me to create an English version here and translate part of its content. Just didn't have the time and motivation to do so until now (now being the next few days). It has quite some length and isn't just about the individual markets. Darknet markets now are not just notable but also are becoming increasingly influential to society, a whole new type of market and have billions of $ in revenue (SilkRoad alone 1.2 billion $ within 2 years). It is an active topic of interest to economists, sociologists, policy-makers, criminologists, the common people who are still waiting for drug legalization and the whole of society. --Fixuture (talk) 17:27, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Getting some scholarly papers in economics, sociology, criminology, public policy, new media, cryptography, etc. journals would be great. Again, the key is sources that are about the broader topic rather than generalizing or synthesizing sources about specific markets. I don't have time at the moment to do a lot of digging, but it's worth noting that Google Scholar returns 0 hits for "darknet market". — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:52, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
For what it's worth, if you find good sources and bring them here, I'd be glad to help work on the article. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 17:56, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Plural/singular

If this article is about "darknet markets" as a subject rather than a collection of individuals, the title needs to be singular. It's rare there are exceptions, and when something is plural it often makes more sense for it to be a list. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 22:27, 30 May 2015 (UTC)

Nice article! Just one detail, you call The Hive "One of the better-known web-based drug markets". That doesn't seem right, the Hive was a forum to talk about synthesis, not a market. It was even forbidden to ask for or post sources for chemicals or equipment. With the archives freely accessible, readers might get the wrong idea about darknet markets if they believe the Hive was one of them. Ssscienccce (talk) 08:56, 20 October 2015 (UTC)

Connection of Deku-shrub with Deep Dot Web Website.

It's interesting to see that you quote the Deep DOT Web a lot more than any other source of Deep Web information. You have written articles for the same website. What exactly is your connection with them? Do you think there is a conflict of interest? Do you think quoting the same source more than any other lowers the quality of the article?

I have written for them twice AFAIK. They are the best source of this news so obviously I would use them as sources a lot. I have not cited my writings as that would original research, plus neither are relevant to this page. Deku-shrub (talk) 17:59, 15 December 2015 (UTC)

Rap

I'm placing this here because I can never find it otherwise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIHGvsPD_SA Deku-shrub (talk) 19:38, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
