New league or rebrand?[edit]

@Zanoni: @Onshore: @Dunadan9: Are we sure that the Cymru North (and South) is a new division and not simply a continuation of the original under a new name, in the same way as the Cymru Premier? The wording on the WPL site would seem to suggest a continuation "which will henceforth be known as the JD Cymru Premier, JD Cymru North and JD Cymru South" and "with both leagues coming under the FAW’s jurisdiction for the first time"? The Cymru North is basically the new name for the Cymru Alliance and the Cymru South is the new name for the Welsh League Division One. Both are now under the control of the FAW. Dunadan9 (talk) 05:01, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, what I mean is should the original Cymru Alliance page simply have been renamed rather than start a new page in the same way the Welsh Premier League page was moved to Cymru Premier? Kosack (talk) 06:00, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When the FAW first announced the new Tier 2 leagues they said they were called the 'FAW Championship North & Mid and FAW Championship South & Mid - making a distinction - and they called them new leagues see their article of 28 June - and see their recruitment of staff to oversee the leagues 'North' here and 'South' here] In August they announced the rebranding which in effect changed the Welsh Premier Leagues to 'Cymru Premier' and the FAW North to 'Cymru North' and the FAW South to 'Cymru South' - so I would say they were clearly aimed to be distinctively new leagues and not a continuation of the previous Tier 2 leagues.
The other issue is in terms of articles - I'm not sure that's practical for the Welsh Football League Division One to just be renamed. For example as it still exists this season - last season it was at Tier 2 - this season it operates at Tier 3 - i.e. as the feeder to the Cymru South at Tier 2. With all Tier 3 leagues coming under the FAW for 2020–21, the logical here would be for the Welsh Football League Division One to move to Tier 4 level as a feeder to the FAW Tier 3 league for South Wales etc. For me - it's best that we have some differentiation. Not like the FAW to make things difficult though! Zanoni (talk) 08:51, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Zanoni (talk · contribs) and just to add that for the first time this season the FAW are in full control of Tier 2 and will do the same with Tier 3 from next season. Onshore (talk) 09:54, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the replies. Kosack (talk) 18:13, 10 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
