GA Reassessment[edit]

Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch

I'm doing a reassessment of the GA qualities of this article as part of the GA Sweeps.

Honestly I'm not too impressed with this article. Here are some of the issues:

  • Weasel wording and NPOV, "...who are considered the kings of Japanese baseball." The statement has no citation and who considers them the Kings?
  • Referencing is sporadic and oddly placed. Usually inline citations come at the end of the sentence or at least after a comma. This sentence is an example of the citations sprinkled around with little organization, "Many KFC outlets in Kōbe and Ōsaka moved their Colonel Sanders statues inside until the series was over to protect them from rabid Tigers fans[1] The newly replaced Colonel Sanders statue in the Dotonbori KFC branch was bolted down to prevent a repeat[1] of the incident."
  • Several stub paragraphs (paragraphs of one sentence). These should be expanded or combined with other paragraphs.
  • The "Curse of the Colonel" section is one sentence, this should either be expanded or combined with another section.
  • The references are formatted oddly. I've never seen this formatting before though I don't claim to be an expert on the various styles. Please refer to WP:CITE#HOW for examples of how to cite magazine/newspaper articles.
  • I'd question the credibility of the first cite, a travel guide. If a case can be made for reliability I'll consider it though.
  • I added a [citation needed] template that should be addressed.
  • Ref [6] is a dead link and needs to be fixed.
  • The lead does not fully summarize the article, there are subjects in the article not discussed in the Lead.
  • I think the article is comprehensive enough and the writing is good enough.

At this point I feel it does not meet the following GA Criteria:

1(b): issues with the Lead, citation location. Weasel wording and POV statement. 2(b): There is at least one place where an in-line citation needs to be added.

At this point I will hold the article for a week in order to give editors time to work. I don't think it will take a lot of work to get it back to GA standards. H1nkles (talk) 18:46, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, the article has been reworked a bit, with references added, reference formatting fixed, and parts combined to make it better. Anything else? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 20:42, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This looks better, I'll remove the hold and keep as GA, thank you for your work. H1nkles (talk) 15:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
