Did You Know A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on June 18, 2007.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that Chicago's Crown Fountain (pictured) displays LED images of faces, which typically create the illusion of puckered lips spouting water?
Current status: Featured article

Photo requests[edit]

This article would be greatly assisted by some photographs for which a great deal of hard-to-follow verbiage now serves:

  • close up of an LED brick
  • close up of the water spout
  • close up of the top
  • overview and close up of the LED supporting structure

GA On Hold[edit]

I have placed this article on hold because of one thing. The opening sentence of the article says that the fountain is 'interactive,' however, after reading the article through, I fail to find out how the fountain is interactive. Since this seems to be an important part of the fountain, this needs to be added before the article can become a GA. If this is indeed in the article, it should be clarified, because I, as an outside reader, was not able to determine it. When you are done, or if you have any questions, drop a note on my talk page. Cheers, Corvus coronoides talk 15:21, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Note the sentence "a plastic nozzle was fitted to the stainless steel frame to control the waterflow at a rate that will not cause the city to be liable for injury by interactive participants" discusses interactivity. I will add more.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 15:39, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Italic text==GA Passed== I have passed this article for GA as the issue above was resolved. It's an interesting article on an interesting topic. Keep working on it! Cheers, Corvus coronoides talk 16:49, 25 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article doesn't have a lead. It could be broken down into a few sections. It's also overly illustrated, sandwiching text between images. LARA♥LOVE 22:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

comment[edit]

not only not in this sentence; In fact, many report that they have not only not seen their own digitized image, but have yet to hear of anyone who has seen their own image Negation Use consider revising.SriMesh | talk 03:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Featured article[edit]

I believe this is a fantastic article, but I was surprised when I found out it was only a GA. I think this article could presently pass a FA assessment, and if not, it could with a couple of edits. I am willing to help out to get this article to FA status. Right now, I am going to put the article up for peer review in the hopes of getting this ball rolling. Copy Editing[edit]

So, I have a new version of this article ready to go with a few more copy edits, but I was unable to post it because you have started to revert the edits. I've looked through the article's FAC pages several times and I am inclined to agree with the user TONY. The article is far too overlinked. While I believe some of his suggestions are go overboard, I too think you go a bit overboard. There needs to be a compromise, though it doesn't seem as though you are will to compromise. Torsodog (talk) 07:45, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FAC copyedit questions[edit]

I have done the lead and first paragraph after. I have a question aboiut this sentence: This capstone status evolved from its location: east of Michigan Avenue and across from the Chicago Landmark Historic Michigan Boulevard District; north of Monroe Street and the Art Institute of Chicago; west of the rest of the park and the lake; and south of Madison Street and the McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink. Since Millennium Park is the capstone, the sentence seems to be referring to it, but the description is of the location of Crown Fountain within Millennium Park. How about just The fontain has a prominent location in Chicago and the new park: east of Michigan Avenue and across from the Chicago Landmark Historic Michigan Boulevard District; north of Monroe Street and the Art Institute of Chicago; west of the rest of the park and the lake; and south of Madison Street and the McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink. ? Please let me know if I have introduced any errors. I am stopping for now, will be back in several hours Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:47, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That change would be fine.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 05:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks - thanks too for fixing the Front Yard bit. Hopefully the rest of my copyedits are OK. Will do more shortly, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:01, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another one - where is the Raoul Wallenberg Square where Plensa's Star of David sculpture is? Is it at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington DC? (But that is Raoul Wallenberg Place). If so, we could link that. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:40, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • And this says Gläserne Seele is in the German state of Brandenburg, so I changed it to "(Gläserne Seele & Mr. Net in Brandenburg (1999–2000))." Is this correct or is "in Brandenburg" part of the title? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:04, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • You will not like this, but I took out "interactive participants" - the ref does not say this and a Google search on "interactive participants" and "Crown Fountain" found only things related to Wikipedia. If it is from a reliable source, please source it and put it back in. I left a note there and one where I would add the distance between the towers if it is known, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:33, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • I found a ref. There was another one with the word interactive or interactivity in the article title, but it seems to have been removed from the current version of the article.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 08:27, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • I did not take it out - here is a diff of all my copyedits save the very first one [1] I will let you deal with the non-breaking spaces and other MOS issues Sandy raises. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 14:27, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • I also note that a Google Books snippet search on Gilfoyle's book does not find the word "participant" at all here and finds "interactive" only once in conjuction with the fountain, on page 285, not page 291 here. Interactivity does get a hit on page 291, but the snippet cuts it off. Could you please give a direct quote of the sentence from Gilfoyle here? Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:45, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

construction picture[edit]

What do we think of this picture? I've used this person's work for Cloud Gate in the past, so it is possible to get permission to use this free image. Is it worth going after? --TorsodogTalk 02:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright concerns[edit]

Permanently installed artwork in the United States does not qualify for freedom of panorama. Is there any particular reason why the images in this article would be any different? It is pretty simple artwork, but I believe it is artwork protected by copyright nonetheless. NW (Talk) 20:19, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. For what it is worth, the FAC was reviewed with these images by both Jappalang and J Milburn, who felt the images were free unless the videos were being displayed on the fountain. Could you say which images you specifically have trouble with? Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:22, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I certainly trust Jappalang's opinion on the images. The main image I was thinking of was File:20080728 Crown Fountain at night (flank view) of south tower2.jpg. The lead image is tagged with a non-free fair use tag, so I thought maybe that might have to be as well. NW (Talk) 16:30, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. For what it's worth, the image in question shows the back side of the fountain (which is lit internally), so the blue light is not from the LED display on the front. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:30, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

@Ppt91: in 2021 you added the yellow banner at the top of the page expressing concerns about the article being overly detailed. Do you still have these concerns? If so, would you be willing to post a notice about your concerns below and perhaps bring this to FAR in a few weeks? Z1720 (talk) 16:38, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
