Do you have a couple of sources about him rather than by him? There are several ways to demonstrate notability but the easiest is for there to be several independentreliable sources each with significant coverage of him. I usually consider that to mean three sources with ~150+ words discussing him. Also, if there are books or articles which mention any major national or international awards won by him or his films.
Wikipedia's important policies to keep in mind when writing an article are: the requirement that all information be verifiable with a reliable source; that the subject be notable; and that, for living people, all material in the article be compliant with the policy on biographies of living people.
