Article tag bombed[edit]

I can't support the tag bombing the article has suffered. It reduces the article's readability to a low level. Suggest they be pulled out and a template be added to the start of the article. Jusdafax 06:53, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see not much has changed on this issue. The article is grossly disfigured by all the tags. Jusdafax 04:37, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a major cut down on Wiki linking on this page and I see the same issue - [citation needed] - is all over the place and greatly detracts from the page. Looks like alot of the tags are from 2010 and 2011 - probably about the time someone did a wholesale copy/paste of Decca's CCR web page (http://www.decca.com/artists/creedence-clearwater-revival/). I'd suggest deleting the "offending text" for anything older than 2 or 3 yrs, but you'd gut the page. Obviously "no one" has any time to find references for the tagged sentences or it'd be done already. Let me look at the page and see if I can do a sanity check on some of them and reduce the number. Any other thoughts? Ckruschke (talk) 19:16, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Ckruschke[reply]
Regarding the 5th [citation needed] of John Fogerty having said that their Woodstock experience was the inspiration for "Who'll Stop the Rain," I just saw him make that statement in a concert presented on AXS at 12:00 EST on 1-1-2015 as he was introducing the song. I believe the original concert was in 2009 or 2010. This being my first Wikipedia post, I leave it to someone more experienced to decide if the actual article should be edited to add a citation. More research on what genres that CCR influenced[edit]

I believe that this article on CCR is inadequate. CCR is often over-looked as a novelty or cover band, when the reality is, Creedence either foreshadowed or influenced almost all music in American rock or country music after their hey-day. I would also consider Creedence to be an overlooked influence in the British scenes of punk rock, Goth rock, funk-punk, the British new wave of heavy metal, and thrash metal.50.152.188.72 (talk) 03:31, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Were you able to find any sources that say this? Willondon (talk) 15:19, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

CCR is totally swamp rock/roots rock/country rock band. Their never influenced any genres expect i mentioned before. LSM1204 (talk) 17:27, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Their" and "expect i" means your comments are meaningless. 97.91.83.168 (talk) 00:59, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Origins of the name[edit]

The suggestion that the name Creedence Clearwater Revival may have come from a Church is likely wrong. The book that was cited [1] was published in 2008. Vandalism on the Second Great Awakening page listed Creedence Clearwater Church as the origin of the awakening between 2006 and 2009. This book probably got this fact from the vandalized page during that time. The vandalism is discussed on the talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bryanjjones (talkcontribs) 20:18, 22 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I looked into this, too, and I agree that the reference to the church/revival is unsupported. I've read Beal's book and he doesn't cite a source for the reference in question.--Mox La Push (talk) 04:33, 13 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fogerty's voice manipulated on recordings?[edit]

His voice in live concerts always sounded much thinner then the CCR records. Almost not even the same man. I wonder if his fight to keep the live Woodstock performance from being seen and heard was an early indication that Fogerty's voice was "helped" by engineers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:642:4100:17A5:40AE:1F73:64E6:AD1 (talk) 19:01, 10 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Autotune did not exist before 1996...so... no. 97.91.83.168 (talk) 01:02, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasy perhaps? His voice doesn't sound any different live IMO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.188.9 (talk) 22:54, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Here's why I didn't prune this article (yet)[edit]

The openening section is waaaaay too big. It's certainly NOT the place to infodump all the usual fanboy arm-waving "sounds like" nonsense and trivia about their politics or social stances. Assuming it's relevant, it ought be AFTER the Contents.

Why do I suspect fanboyism? Lots of gosh-wow trivia that amounts to original research, like this two-fer — Curiously, on WLS, the band had no No. 2 singles, with "Down On The Corner" the only top ten CCR single registering the same peak position (No. 3) on the Hot 100 and WLS. Adding a supporting footnote doesn't make it any less OR.

Furthermore, at about 1/3 through the article, it all turns into hearsay, with not even an attempt to offer a citation for ~90% of the claims made. Look in particular at the Post-breakup section on the subsequent lives of the four musicians AND Fantasy Records… yet in that whole swathe only TWO claimed outside references.

If WP policies were followed strictly, all of this nonsense should be immediately scrubbed until it can be returned with actual verifiable substantiation. Anyone want to make a countercase, or maybe even do some of the lifting?
Weeb Dingle (talk) 16:50, 24 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm don't necessarily disagree, but my impression of what constitutes OR is a statement presented as fact without any credible 3rd party source to back up the statement. As to whether the WLS thing should even be in the article is a whole 'nother story. To me that is minutia better suited for a biographical publication, not an encyclopedic article.THX1136 (talk) 13:21, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CCR's music genre[edit]

Don't you think that CCR performed rock and roll music? In their 1970 hit single "travelin band" is totally rock and roll/roots rock song. LSM1204 (talk) 17:30, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In short, yes. However, "roots rock", "country rock", and "swamp rock" are all more-specific sub-genres of rock and roll. "Travelin Band" is one song out of many (and acknowledged as the aforementioned roots rock. The citation is a brief mention in a book about religion. Joefromrandb (talk) 02:17, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rock and roll[edit]

Don't you agree that CCR did rock and roll music too? Especially in their 1970 us no.2 single "travelin' band is totally 1950's rock and roll-style music. So i added genre "rock and roll." LSM1204 (talk) 15:41, 1 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fogerty refuses to perform after his death?[edit]

This line in the article states Fogerty refused to perform in 1993. That would indeed be difficult since the man died in 1990?

""" Fogerty's ongoing disagreements with Saul Zaentz, owner of their label Fantasy Records, created further protracted court battles. As a result, John Fogerty refused to perform with the two other surviving former members at CCR's 1993 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[5][6] """ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.181.100.203 (talk) 09:55, 14 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

As a zombie, John Fogerty is not only looking quite presentable, but has continued to release new work since that untimely death, specifically Blue Moon Swamp (1997), Deja Vu All Over Again (2004), Revival (2007), The Blue Ridge Rangers Ride Again (2009), and Wrote A Song For Everyone (2013).
Weeb Dingle (talk) 05:37, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A more direct explanation: the Fogerty you mention as dying in 1990 is brother Tom Fogerty, not John Fogerty.THX1136 (talk) 15:02, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Article has an anti John vibe[edit]

John obviously has an ego which I would think you would have to have to be a front man. However, the whole "John is an asshole" vibe of the article is a little distracting.

The truth of the matter is that all of the remaining three WOULD have been still working at a car wash if it were not for John's talent. While I get that they would have been even richer if it had not been to some of John's poor business decisions, the fact of the matter is they would have made zero money without him. Seems like the article misses that point.

Member timeline?[edit]

If I may make a suggestion, it would be helpful to add a timeline of the lineups of CCR. I drafted a template showing the members and their time in the band:

--100.36.2.89 (talk) 01:15, 15 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good to me: I'll add it, and we'll see if anyone objects. Regards, IiKkEe (talk) 02:50, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Missing sentence?[edit]

There seems to be a sentence missing before "Fogerty resisted, feeling that a "democratic" process would.." - it doesn't say what he is resisting. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 00:49, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
