Name[edit]

Are there any sources that confirm that the Black Widow will be officially named "X2"? Letdorf 11:26, 18 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

X2 now just a processor blade?[edit]

It appears from recent Cray publicity that they are now using the "X2" name for a vector processor blade for the XT5h system, rather than a standalone vector supercomputer system as previously expected. Also it appears that the YARC router has been dropped in favor of the XT5h's SeaStar2+, but it's difficult to find any hard confirmation of this. I think this article needs to be updated to reflect the current reality. Letdorf (talk) 16:26, 10 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

I've now updated the article to (I hope) more accurately reflect reality. Letdorf (talk) 17:10, 25 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

You need to update the article again to properly reflect Cray's reality. According to the PDF for the X2 blade, BOTH interconnect technologies are included. X2 blades talk to *each other* via YARC, but talk to the Opteron/Linux/Lustre/login/etc nodes via SeaStar2+. The diagram shows what appears to be a bridge chip between the Yarc chip and the SeaStar2+ chip.

Thanks for the tip, I've revised the article to describe both interconnects now. Letdorf (talk) 09:31, 29 May 2008 (UTC).[reply]

You've almost got it right now. ;) There are 4 processors per node, and 2 nodes per blade. Thus, there are 8 processors per blade and up to 128 GB of RAM. You have stated there are only 4 processors per blade. Hardwarefreak (talk) 07:45, 4 June 2008 (UTC) Stan Hoeppner, St. Louis, MO, USA[reply]

BTW, it would be beneficial to add the X2 blade PDF to the external links section of the article. Hardwarefreak (talk) 07:49, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, didn't spot that - edited accordingly now. Letdorf (talk) 10:39, 4 June 2008 (UTC).[reply]
