Gaelic Name[edit]
Baile Cobhan an t-Eas.[edit]
The only source I can find is https://archive.org/stream/celticplacenames00miln/celticplacenames00miln_djvu.txt ("Countesswells. If Countesswells is a name of Gaelic origin it may represent Baile Cobhan an t-Eas, town in the howe of the burn. Baile, town; cobhan (pronounced cowan)"). Although the author is applying a lot of "if"s and "but"s to this, it seems to be pretty accurate given how names of other nearby settlements have evolved (Kingswells - "Kingswells, Kingshill. In all these names King and King's represent ceann, head. [...] but Wells might represent bhaile, baile asp., town."). Also, the geography of the area perfectly fits the description of the translation. Note that Gaelic often uses the word translated as "town" for any settlement from a hamlet to a city. With all due respect to certain political views, Aberdeen(shire) was a historically Gaelic speaking area (the fact Doric was spoken does not preclude the speaking of Gaelic).
As the only source is in the Internet Archive and there is a risk to that source, is there any other way to preserve this or cite it?
