Founding Date[edit]

Hi there! I just came across this page and noticed the founding date of 1961... I called my father (Class of 1961) and he said that the new campus didn't even exist until his brother was in school (10 years later). My mother's (Class of '63) Flare (The school's yearbook) clearly shows the Davy Crockett building. I am not sure where the 61 founding date came from, are we talking about the date that the new campus began construction? If so, there would be two "Conroe High Schools" from 1961 to 1969...

Complicating matters, Dad seems to recall calling the Davy Crockett building "Conroe High"... in fact it seems that everyone called the school "Conroe High", even my grandparents (Classes of '31,'32 and '33)seemed to call the school "Conroe High" even though the school was technically called "Davy Crockett High". The schools mascot, motto and colors haven't changed since my grandparents were in school. Should we simply add on the history of the school to the page and say that "Conroe High" has existed since the early 1900s, and leave it at that? I have a lot of photos and history of Conroe High that dates back to the early 1900s and I'd like to put them up here, but I don't know whether I should spin off the page or just add it here. Founding Date Re: The current Conroe High School building completed construction before September of 1964 for the start of the 1964-1965 school year. My father graduated in 1968 and started Conroe High School as a freshman the first year it opened in 1964. Prior to that the " Davy Crockett High School " was considered and called Conroe High School by the majority of the residents in Conroe. My grand father and uncles all graduated from Conroe high or Crocket high in the 1930's. When the current Conroe High School was constructed, they changed the Crockett school to an intermediate school I believe. I feel that the entire page about Conroe High should be deleted and re constructed using only validated and factual information. Pictures would also be a great idea to add to the page. I do not think it would be very hard to call a Conroe High School official or local historian and get facts sorted from fiction on the actual history of Conroe High. As an alumni of Conroe High myself, I feel that the school deserves to have a fully factual, and well constructed page on here. I would do it myself, but I will admit first hand I am a pretty lazy guy.

On another note, my family has had season tickets to Conroe High Football games since 1964, and on the home coming day of 2004 during half-time, they even announced that it was the fortieth year of the schools construction there. Year books, students, all of these should be great references.

Are you sure this is the year Conroe High opened?[edit]

If Conroe High was opened in 1964, as this article says, that would mean that the school fight song predates the founding of the school by 17 years! And the band itself by more than that. That date is just not correct, I've known someone who graduated from Conroe High in the early 50s. 2600:100D:B003:2F85:0:45:58CC:B501 (talk) 04:58, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

From 1926–1964, students in Conroe attended Davy Crockett High School, though many in the community referred to it as "Conroe High." In 1964, the district finished construction of the current Conroe High School and converted Davy Crockett into what is now Travis Intermediate. The 1964 founding date is therefore accurate, although perhaps it would be useful to expand a bit on this prior history within the article. The Courier of Montgomery County has written several articles about this, some of which have already been cited. Stedil (talk) 07:17, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
