Notable Alumni[edit]

There are several names for which there is no explanation as to why they are notable. If there is no objection, I will delete them. --Westwind273 (talk) 20:36, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editing of the Gun Threats[edit]

Even though the Gun Threats are over, it should still be posted as part of the history. The Smiling Bandit (talk) 14:35, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because the gun threats were removed from this article without even an explaination, I will place them back. Please reply to me HERE if you wish to have a discusion about this. It is an event that had permanantly affected this school. The Smiling Bandit (talk) 14:31, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yet again the article has had the gun threats have been removed. I will revert it back. PLEASE put in the discussion why it is constantly removed. The Smiling Bandit (talk) 13:25, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just reverted this, and I will explain my reasons (I can't speak for anyone else who ever reverted this).
My main reason for reverting is per WP:NOT#NEWS. When constructing an encyclopedia article, you want to avoid including items that have short term impact in defining the history of an institution. Bomb threats, threats of violence, fights, etc are simply not that important. They certainly can be "big deals" at the time, but over the long haul they are forgotten, and do not impact the overall history of the institution.
If this incident received more widespread coverage for example, the hazing incident at GBN, which involved national media coverage for weeks, then I would say it goes beyond being a one time incident. Incidents like that make schools change what they do (the school involved, and schools elsewhere). Those are the incidents that would go in a history section.
If the single incident had led to copycat incidents that became bigger news, then I could see that being more notable. Or, if the school had a long standing problem with threats, then that too could be included. Otherwise, I think one time incidents like this are (sadly) too common.
You are free to challenge that assertion, and we could start asking for third opinions. However, given what I have seen come up in school articles, I suspect the overall community will not support its inclusion. LonelyBeacon (talk) 19:18, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
