Talk:Columnar

I was told that this page did not indicate why the topic, columnar morphology, was important, and thus did not warrant being included in the encylopedia. As cell morphology follows cell function, it is very important to the histologist or any biology student or researcher to be acquainted with the special properties of the columnar epithelial cell. Any student in her first semester of bio 101 has to memorize columnar, cuboidal, and squamous, along with stratification, and be able to list the functions of such cells. I see no reason why information so fundamental to building an understanding of organismal biology ought to be excluded from an encyclopedia. Shame on you, wikipedia.

And I just read the CSU A7 rule about excluding articles that do not indicate the importance of their subject: IT DOES NOT APPLY TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND--CELLULAR BIOLOGY. Academic subjects are prima facie significant. "A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion." In other words, this rule excludes articles where someone wants to write about themselves or their best friend without indicating that they are important in some way--like Martin Luther King, Jr. or Mother Theresa, or even someone notorious. This rule also exists so that individuals do not post trivial information, such as "Oh, I really liked this beach book--I think I'll put a book report of it up on wikipedia."

So if you are going to exclude "columnar," find a bylaw that is actually applicable.
