  • ... that footballer Coli Saco had to give up his first call-up to Napoli's first team for a Serie A match in January 2022, after he tested positive for COVID-19? Source: [1]
"[Napoli's squad] has traveled to Turin for tonight's match against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium. Primavera's midfielder Coli Saco should have taken part in the game, too. [...] Step by step, he earned himself an opportunity to train with the first team and tonight, due to the unavailability of various players, he should have traveled for the match against Juventus. Saco himself wanted to write a regretful post on social media, due to his positivity [to COVID-19] and his subsequent omission from the match-day squad that went to Turin."

    • Comment: Just a quick bit of information from a new article I've created yesterday. I hope I've done everything alright... Also, this is my third nomination overall, so I should still be below the QPQ minimum limit.

The log for this nomination can be found at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Coli Saco, so please watch a successfully closed nomination until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • New enough created Feb 3 and nominated Feb 4, long enough at 2026 characters. Second nominations so no QPQ is needed. Copyvio detector does not find copyright violations. The article has the correct inline citations and is neutral. I spot checked the references and they check out, but would suggest not WP:OVERCITEing when using the inline citations. It is very distracting and not needed. The hook is cited and appears in the article but it is lacking context...as in call up to what? Maybe adding footballer to the hook? I will leave that to a nominator. Thanks for participating here! Bruxton (talk) 18:39, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruxton: Sorry, I don't know why I didn't receive any message, but I'm reading this just now... Anyway, thank you for your review! Yes, "footballer" is definitely useful for this matter. Also, to clarify, Saco was given the opportunity to travel with Napoli's senior squad for the first time, and that match would have given him an opportunity to make his debut both in the Italian top-tier (one of the so-called "Top Five" European leagues) and in a professional environment: however, all of this was made impossible by his positive COVID test. I hope this will be a better explanation. Oltrepier (talk) 16:26, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's possible this nom has been passed over because it might feel a bit negative for a BLP on the main page. Can we come up with some alts, to give promoters some options? Valereee (talk) 17:08, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee: You're right: although I genuinely submitted that nomination with good intentions, I should definitely do better... I think we could make it work this way:
ALT1a ... that in November 2022, footballer Coli Saco scored his first professional goal just months after missing out on his first call-up to a Serie A match?
ALT1b ... that in November 2022, footballer Coli Saco scored his first professional goal just months after being forced to give up his first call-up to a Serie A match?
In both cases, the first part of the sentence can be justified by this source, or even by the Soccerway match report. I hope this helps change things for the better: if not, I wouldn't be against discarding this nomination, to be honest. Oltrepier (talk) 20:03, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Both work, I imagine they will be interesting to the many soccer fans. Bruxton (talk) 23:22, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment. ITYM football ;) but as a football fan, I have to say I don't find this nomination that interesting. There are so many articles on Wikipedia about young footballers at the start of their careers. By all means let's take this article to GA once he does something interesting/amazing, and re-nominate for DYK then. @Oltrepier: I pinged you with a quick question on another one of your approved nominations though, so please take a look. Cielquiparle (talk) 04:28, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Cielquiparle: Yes, that's fine: between all the nominations I submitted as of late, this was the most uninspired, anyway... : D By the way, I'll make sure to reply over there soon! Oltrepier (talk) 08:22, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
