Name[edit]

I believe this person's name is actually Clay Buchholz. I don't know how to fix the misspelled name of an article. I guess I'm too lazy to figure it out.--Xyzzyplugh 15:18, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Again I looked around on google. I found a couple of pages that were clearly cut and pasted from this page, a forum post asking if the nickname is accurate, and a blog post making up nicknames for Buchholz (dirty wasn't on the list). And his baseball-almanac page says "none" for nickname. It's pretty clear to me that the nickname isn't in general usage. After someone posted about it today on the Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, I wondered about that, too. I moved the paragraph here because the link is broken, the search function on the host site had no results for the name, and I could find no legitimate verification of it elsewhere. 158.135.245.212 (talk · contribs), who named it "Trouble," added this section almost a year ago:

"On April 2, 2004, Buchholz was arrested for stealing 29 laptop computers from the Lumberton Independent School District's Intermediate School campus. Along with Dustin Dodge, a fellow schoolmate, had stolen the laptops from the campus and were selling them at McNeese State University where they had attended school together. Each laptop was worth an estimated 2500 dollars each after the inclusion of software programs, in all, 70,000 dollars worth of lap tops. The students were selling them for around 100-400 dollars on campus in Lousianna. Investigators say during the Christmas holidays Buchholz and Dodge climbed through a hatch on the school's roof. Officers say they went into an unlocked storage room where teachers kept the laptops and stole them. [1]"

It shouldn't be in the article, even with a {{fact}} tag, when so much time has passed since it was added without verification from a reliable source. Keep[edit]

Bucholz has been the subject of published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject. He also has demonstrable wide name recognition as the top pitching prospect in one of the most prominent baseball teams. He also has played in a fully professional league (I.E. minor league baseball as well as a spring training start with the big league club). See WP:BIO. Correction[edit]

"He is listed as the best Red Sox prospect headed into the 2007 season by Baseball America."

Actually, he was listed 3rd behind DAISUKE MATSUZAKA (#1 overall) and JACOBY ELLSBURY (#33 overall). So I'm removing this line.

No-Hitter[edit]

FYI, There has been some confustion tonight about Buchholz's No Hitter. He is the 17th rookie pitcher in the MLB to achieve a no-hitter and the 16th Red Sox player to have a no-hitter. Laptop Theft[edit]

I removed the section relating to his laptop theft. The placement in the article was bad, and given that he is now a highly touted pitching prospect (with an already brilliant major league career) and has clearly put these things behind him, it seems somewhat vengeful to note what was likely teenager stupidity.

If someone wants to add it back in, noting that other teams had concerns about him relating to this incident (and this is the reason he fell in the draft), that seems reasonable. But to simply list someone's past transgressions - in a sentence about where they attended highschool, no less - doesn't really strike me as appropriate for a living person's Wiki entry.

I'll start by saying that I'm a huge Buchholz fan, and I think that it deserves mention. That incident was a factor to why he was not drafted higher, and the Red Sox had to think and talk with him to make sure that was in his past. Is it pretty? 2007 Section[edit]

When editing Wikipedia, users should be aware of the view of their edits in the context of the future. The brief section following his no-hitter subsection is wholly unnecessary given this view. Clay's 3 innings of relief work against the Orioles, in the scheme of an encyclopedic entry, is absurd. Links to baseball-reference.com are already provided at the bottom of this page, and game logs are accessible to view such information. Of course events such as his no-hitter are worthy of a mention and a subsection. As Buchholz's career proceeds, it is completely impossible to continue to provide the type of game-by-game analysis that this precedent would set. This article should be a broad view of his career and, where applicable, his personal life. Statistics[edit]

Just to let everyone know, I plan to add a section detailing Buchholz's major league statistics. I feel this is justified given Buchholz's status as a starting pitcher in the current (2008) rotation. I wholeheartedly welcome any suggestions as to how to improve such a section. Thanks.
