More than that, operations are said to be made in given moments of the year and given astrological aspects. Xyzt1234 20:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article used to be titled "Astrology and alchemy" but was moved some time ago. Feel free to expand anything in your area of expertise, and a rename to "astrology and alchemy" will be warranted. — Sam 21:51, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The essence of the Rulership of the metals, at any rate, had Arabic origins in the short term, and they probably had it from the Mittani/Nabateans (NOT the Babylonians, although it may have passed through them en route) who were closely allied with 18th Dynasty Egypt (see the Amarna Letters) in pre-Hittite times.[1]. As the Arab sources sometimes use the metal as a symbol for its Ruler, it would be helpful to add the Arabic name and and roman-script transliteration for both. -- 22:41, 16 February 2015‎ 90.193.82.123

i remember reading about this in Time-life Mysteries of the Unknown on magic. but i have no copy to ref. Bloodkith (talk)

Wow. Sorry, but that's not a reputable source. -- 22:41, 16 February 2015‎ 90.193.82.123

Useful?[edit]

Not sure how useful this article is. Classical planets don't differ between alchemy and astrology at all apart from their associations with metals. Maybe the page should be reworked to focus on the seven metals? This information is also repeated in part on the alchemical symbols page and the Classical planets page.Car Henkel (talk) 17:01, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is some drift in associations, between the Califate and the Renaissance (Puteanus' Bruxela Septenaria, for example). The core doctrine is that Divine Intent passes through the planets, both directly and indirectly, and so putting the indirect path through metals at the centre would be wrong. Yes, the astrological feeds the talismanic use of the metals, and indeed of other minerals such as alum in early chemistry (one can see alum in use in cleaning water polluted by arsenic in one text, for example), but the astrological above all uses that stream directly in horoscopic astrology.
Let me be clear about the different streams of astrology. One was used in navigation, and led directly to modern astronomy through d'Ailly's team's correction to the Arabic cosmological tables sourced by Alfonso el Sabio (Kepler crediting Cusanus in the opening to The Starry Messenger) - Columbus was a firm adherent. Those tables were also used in horoscopic astrology, and that in turn fed the alchemical, that processes have their right time to be done. -- 22:41, 16 February 2015‎ 90.193.82.123
