To not merge, on the grounds that the Classical period is a subset of Ancient; WP:SUMMARY; quality is also imbalanced. Klbrain (talk) 22:43, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is already well established article Ancient Greek sculpture. I advice to merge some of the material here into that article. Arthistorian1977 (talk) 21:32, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article is on a specific subset of ancient Greek sculpture – our page on ancient Greek sculpture currently spans from about 900 BC to about 100 BC, whereas classical sculpture is less than two centuries of that. Given that this article is over 7000 words long, and ancient Greek sculpture is over 3000, the resulting page would be both way too long, and contain way too much detail on classical sculpture for a more general article. I can't see any compelling reason to merge. Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 10:29, 18 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Caecilius that this topic is too big to merge. It merits a standalone article imo. 𝕱𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖎𝖆 (talk) 04:11, 23 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose the merge of articles. Per WP:MERGE, "Merging should be avoided if:
  1. The resulting article would be too long or "clunky",
  2. The separate topics could be expanded into longer standalone (but cross-linked) articles, or
  3. The topics are discrete subjects warranting their own articles, with each meeting the General Notability Guidelines, even if short."
Item 1. This article size is 44 kB in readable prose. Ancient Greek Sculpture is 19 kB. Total 63kb. Per WP:SIZERULE, more than 60kb "Probably should be divided (although the scope of a topic can sometimes justify the added reading material)".
But let's say only half of the material is moved. Total 41 kB. Length can justify division.
Therefore, I lean to oppose merge in these regards.
Item 2. Looking at the lack of expansion of the Ancient Greek sculpture article in the last year, I leant to think the article at hand maybe won't be expanded in the short term.
Therefore, I disregard this as rationale for the merge.
Item 3. I certainly think both articles are discrete subjects warranting their own articles and meeting the General Notability Guideline.
Therefore, I oppose the merge in this regard. Thinker78 (talk) 02:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose this is a paid-for machine traslation with all sort of issues, including excessive length. No. Note that the same project has also given us Archaic Greek Sculpture (47k raw bytes) and Hellenistic sculpture (65k raw bytes). Same issues. Johnbod (talk) 03:03, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
