Death[edit]

How do we know he died? - Chris.sherlock (talk) 01:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Source has now been added. It would be better to add the source well before saying they died. Just saying. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 07:22, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Birth year[edit]

The Obit said fairly clearly he was 88 years old, and if he died in August it means that he was most certainly born in 1932. Given his death in August, there is no way he could have been born in 1931. That would have made him 87. Just doing the math! - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:04, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If he was born between 28 August 1931 and 31 December 1931, he was still 88 on the day of his death. Fail. WWGB (talk) 08:10, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that's what I thought. 88 it is! - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:39, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why remove the standardized templates? - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:41, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Because we cannot say that he was born in 1932, as explained above. WWGB (talk) 08:44, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'll raise an RFC. It would have been nice if you had not reverted my edits and also made new changes in the one edit. This makes it your fourth revert- Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:47, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RFC[edit]

Can we use the {{death date and age}} and {{birth year}}? - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:45, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No. As explained above, all we know is that Jeffreys died on 27 August 2020, aged 88. That means he was born anytime between 28 August 1931 and 27 August 1932. Therefore it is not true to state that his birth year was 1932, unless a reliable source turns up a DOB in that year. WWGB (talk) 08:48, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Why can't we use {{death date}}? Also, you wrote that he was born over two years 1931-1932, which is not exactly possible... unless it was a very long and painful labour. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 08:54, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have made another edit as an attempted compromise. I think this should be sufficient to satisfy everyone. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 09:38, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Use
Why do you need a full-blown thirty-day formal WP:RFC for this? --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:36, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I didn't know about those template. It was getting to be a full blown revert war, and there seemed to be no compromise. - Chris.sherlock (talk) 10:46, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No. Despite knowing his death date, we should only include his exact birth year when confirmed by a reliable source. Idealigic (talk) 13:04, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
