Ousted?[edit]

This statement can't be true: "this stance raised suspicions within the FBI and conservative circles in California, that later would lead to Kerr's ouster." He wasn't ousted as Chancellor, he was promoted to UC President where he served for nine years until 1967. Scholarly Career missing . . .[edit]

I'm not the one to do it, but there needs to be at least some account of his scholarly career, for which he is arguably best known: _Industrialism and Industrial Man_ to some extent, but especially _The Uses of the University_, the book he is best known for. Master Plan?[edit]

Shouldn't there be SOME mention of his involvement in writing/enacting the California Master Plan for Education? Yes! I just came here to say this bio is grotesquely incomplete without a discussion of his influence on education in California, which is what I came here to read about. I too don't know enough about it. Hope someone will rescue this entry soon. Eperotao (talk) 19:27, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Seriously, Clark Kerr is a horrible human being and needs to be remembered for raping hundreds of thousands of kids out of quality educations due to his contributions to the systematized hierarchy he purposefully put in place permanently segregating the UC's from the CSU's! Please, everyone, remember how he dedicated his life to ensuring that working class kids went to CSU's and the smarter, better (off) kids went to UC's which were able to offer PhD's while the CSU's could not(by law!)! It meant so much to his life and legacy that a system was in place to differentiate the two, and that the smarter, better-off kids had a systemic leg up over their poorer peers!

I have just read this bio ,which reads more like a hagiography for a postwar/Cold War liberal and educational technocrat that a serious assessment of kerr's life and career. If nothing else, his creation of the Master Plan and his idea of the 'multiversity' and the transformation of the entire national economy by the 'knowledge industry' need to be addressed. Also, far more consideration needs to be given to WHY the free Speech movement saw him as an enemy, not an ally. I am a graduate of UC in a somewhat later period, but this history was very present at the time and should not disappear into the image of Kerr the hero and victim, which may have its place as well.Actio (talk) 10:57, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Birthplace[edit]

I removed the link from this article to the Stony Creek article. I think it's unlikely the Stony Creek birthplace is the Dauphin County town, but that it's a location in Berks County. Kerr is buried near Jacksonwald in Berks County, and local history buffs have said there was a Stony Creek post office near there during the World Wars. One even says that there was an area known as Kerrville.

None of this info qualifies as Wikipedia-approved sourcing, but presumably it's enough to remove a dubious link. Ishboyfay (talk) 15:11, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
