Other Scottish Pauls[edit]

Not all Scottish Paul families can trace their origins to Gaelic or Highland clan origins. Some Pauls around the Glasgow area appear to have a Flemish origin. John Paul, a embroiderer, arrived around 1512 to manufacture garments for the Scottish Court of James IV. ^[1]

Updated info for Clan MacPhail section on “with clan Mackay”[edit]

I have written a book on the MacKays who changed their surname from MacKay to MacPhail or Polson. I hope you find my comments useful.

1. Donald MacKay, 5th Chief of Clan Mackay had four sons: Angus MacKay, 6th Chief of Clan MacKay, Houcheon Dubh Mackay, Martin MacKay of Galloway and Neil MacKay of Creich (Sutherland).

2. Neil MacKay of Creich, Sutherland County, Scotland Donald Macdonald, 2nd Lord of the Isles granted Creich Parish (171 square miles) to Neil MacKay. Creich parish included Bonar Bridge Village Neil MacKay of Creich, Sutherland was 4th son of Donald MacKay, 5th Chief of Clan MacKay. Neil was granted Creich Parish (171 square miles) within 3 miles of Dornoch, Sutherland. Neil MacKay had 3 sons: a. Thomas Neilson MacKay of Creich (died) b. Neil Neilson MacKay of Creich c. Morgan Neilson MacKay

3. Neil Neilson Mackay of Creich had 3 sons: a. Angus MacKay b. John Ban Mackay’s descendants took the surname Bayne or Bain. c. Paul MacKay’s descendants mainly took the surname MacPhail but some did use Polson. 24.68.117.118 (talk) 22:19, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
