Oh Dear[edit]

First paragraph is absolutely dreadful. I've tried to fix parts of it, but am coming round to the idea that it might just have to be deleted and rewritten. Tribes, Clans, Plebeians (where did they come from? the Suburra?)... What complete and utter piffle and nonsense. 13th century Scotland was as sophisticated as any other comparable state in Northern Europe, and considerably more than some, and that includes the Highland polity within that description. It was only with the wars of the late 13thc./14thc. that Scotland started to lag behind by reason of English depredation. Clan....hmmm, Walter FitzGilbert spoke Norman French, his descendants lived primarily within the area of Scotland where Ynglis was common parlance. He and his lived their lives as Feudal superiors in the Norman tradition until the 19th c. They may have had Gaelic at some point to communicate with their vassals, but never as their common speech. An absolute shed-load to do on this article. Brendandh 07:40, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

you're right there. I'll be happy to help out on this one where I can. What's all that DNA stuff about? Totally meaningless and by the looks of it cut and pasted in. *Off to look for some references* ::Supergolden:: 13:36, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Clan or House?[edit]

It is very strange that the article is titled "Clan Hamilton", but the very first sentence says that this name is erroneous... Either the first sentence should be changed back to "also known as", or the title of the article should be changed to "House of Hamilton". --walkie (talk) 00:35, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well there is actually an officially recognised "Clan Hamilton" registered with the Lord Lyon of Scotland, which is why the article is entitled so.— Preceding unsigned comment added by QuintusPetillius (talkcontribs) 15 April 2012
I've removed the 'erroneous' bit in the intro. It's just someone's opinion.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 11:02, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
