Notability[edit]

The proposal for deletion does not explain the meaning of "NN corporation/corporate vanity page" and does not give a link to a page with such an explanation. This comment is therefore made without reference to this. CANSO is a major international organisation with considerable influence in air traffic management. It is not primarily a commercial organisation, although many of its members (but not all) are. While this is a specialised area of interest, it is an important subject which should be covered by Wikipedia. This coverage would be incomplete without an article on CANSO. I therefore disagree with deletion. I should perhaps add that I have no conection with CANSO, but I do have many years experience as a pilot representative with a special interest in air traffic management in national and international arenas. treesmill 20:13, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • My apologies; NN is wiki-speak for "Non-Notable". Wikipedia has guidelines for determining the notability of many things; the guidlines for notability of companies/corporations are at WP:CORP. Valrith 20:20, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I should also point out that it's accepted practice for any editor (such as yourself) to remove a deletion proposal such as the one on this article if you disagree with it. You could also expand the article to include references that show the notability of the organization... Valrith 20:25, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • It would be precipitate to remove the deletion proposal without giving others a chance to comment, the 'notice period' of five days would seem to be a reasonable interval after which I will remove it. treesmill 10:02, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's entirely possible that if you wait for the 'notice period' to expire, an admin will get to this article before you do and delete it as an uncontested prod. They might notice this discussion and hold off, but they might not... Valrith 22:01, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Which in fact happened before I had an opportunity to revisit these pages. I see you have reinstated the deletion proposal. I have already stated my objection to this. However, to expand on this, it is difficult to see how an organisation representing more than 40 major aviation organisations worldwide, including the US FAA ATO and NATS in the UK, as well as many smaller organisations, can be in any sense 'non-notable'. Further, CANSO is not a company or corporation, even though some of its full members are. It can, perhaps, be compared to IATA. I will therefore delete the tag. treesmill 11:40, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
