Original Circus Maximus band[edit]

This is not the original Circus Maximus band. The original Circus Maximus was a psychedelic American band (formed in Austin, Texas) during the late nineteen sixties, led by jazzist Bob Bruno and including the now well-known country artist Jerry Jeff Walker. Their first album, simply entitled Circus Maximus, nowadays remains a gem of psychedelic composition - still readily found at most CD vendors, like Amazon.com.

Thus if one is writing an article entitled Circus Maximus (band) it should first speak of the original Circus Maximus band, before speaking of the much later Circus Maximus band.

Inspired by Christian Lyrics[edit]

Does this mean that they are or not Christian musicians? I wouldn't say they are a Christian band... but the lyrics make it seem like they at least Christians! I have been unable to find any information, i found them on URGE under Inspirational Hard Rock... along with a bunch of other Christian Hard Rock! haha -- Mazakar 23:28, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't really call them a christian band either and don't want to but they obviously have christian-like lyrics in their songs. For example the songs; "Prophecy" and "Sin" for example. "I am the one can't you see, I was there all along (refering to god), the choice you make can be undone.(confessions of your sins to rid of them)", "It's in the hands of faith" "a new beginning predicted by the page in the sand" and many other lyrics and the meaning of prophecy. I think they have strong ties to Christianity, Religion and the Bible but then again what hard rock bands don't? still the influence seems stronger than some other hard rock bands I've heard. (also note: I'm not saying they are hard rock in my reply but they are sure inspired by old hard rock) CircafuciX 04:14, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good call! I really liked your reply! I just think it is neat to hear a band of that style to have such positive lyrics! Bands Like Dream Theatre, which is really epic, but the lyrics are not all too positive... or uplifting... but the music is amazing! I still wonder if they are Christian people... And no, i don't just listen to music that is Christian, i am just curious! But anyway, on this Wikipedia article was the first time that I had seen anything about them being "Christian-like" or influenced by Christianity ... so thats why I figured I would ask here! -- Mazakar 15:20, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I also forgot to mention that Allmusicguide classifies them as Christian metal and Christian rock [1] but their genre should stay as progressive metal with Christian as influential lyrics CircafuciX 19:41, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I wouldn't say they are either Christian Metal or Christian Rock... that wouldn't really describe the music very well... Progressive metal is so much better! Most bands that would fall under Christian Metal don't actually classify themselves as that. Or well, thats what I have found from looking around in URGE I have noticed that most just keep with the secular genres. It would be cool to figure out a little bit more of the meanings of the songs.
