According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
I suggest the reason for the Grade I listing (and this could be checked, I think, since the reasons for a particular listing are a matter of record) is due to the architec t for the restoration being Sir Walter Tappe, whose wonderful churches are becoming rather scarce now.
