Venus claim dubious[edit]

The article claims that a feature of Venus is named after her, with a link through to a dubious source.

List of craters on Venus doesn't mention her. Nor List of montes on Venus. Nor List of geological features on Venus. Nor List of coronae on Venus.

A correspondent writes:

"I loved the idea of little-known 40s & 50s star Christine Norden having a feature of the planet Venus named after her, which numerous articles and web pages say is the case. I was baffled not to find it on any official list and emailed the US Astrogeology people to find out what the score was. My enquiry was forwarded to the 'Chair of the Venus Task Group' and I've had a reply... “As far as I remember the name Norden was not assigned for any feature on Venus. Nevertheless I made a search on the web for "Christine Norden" and found numerous notes that some feature on Venus was named after her. These notes point "part", "peak", and "crater" as the possible types of the feature. But only "crater" is a possible category for naming after the names of the known women. I'm sure that this name was not assigned and I do not remember any discussing of this name or including it into the list of possible names anytime since 1985 when the naming of craters on Venus began on a broad scale. Currently all the craters on Venus 5 km in diameter and larger are named. So there is no room for adding more names of known women on Venus.” So despite what was reported in the press at the time - she never had a Venusian commemoration and never will.

So, I think this claim should be removed, perhaps with a remark that though it is often claimed, there is no evidence that it is so.
