First sentence[edit]

Per WP:LEAD, the first sentence of the lead section should identify the most noteworthy context upfront. That context is the biographical figure of which this film is the main focus, rather than the director and the writer, based on reliable sources headlining this famous composer. We are not required to name the director in the first sentence every time, especially when they are not household names or not being headlined. Box office figures but no budget?[edit]

Grimm, Mozart and Saint-Georges[edit]

Someone perhaps Bednarek wrote a note that "Mozart, aged 22, visited Paris in 1778, but there is no record that he ever met Joseph Bologne, then aged 33 and later dubbed "The Black Mozart", who was a well-known composer by then, although both men resided from 5 July to 11 September with Baron von Grimm at his apartment at Louise d'Épinay's residence, 5 rue de la Chaussée-d'Antin."

First of all the sentence has too many details. Not their age but the during of their stay should be mentioned and explained. Mozart lived there from March till September and Saint-Georges from July to September. Even the film doesn't mention any of this someone thought that it is important enough for a note. Secondly it is not sure Saint-Georges was a well-known composer by that time. I checked French newspaper in the 1780s on Retronews and he is not or seldom mentioned (only in the 90's). Thirdly it hard to believe the two musicians never met if both lived in the same house under the same roof for a couple of weeks. What should mentioned that it is not recorded. Can you imagine two musicians not playing together? Incredible in my point of view. Perhaps they did not go along. Grimm is accused not being nice to Mozart but what about the other two? Why did they both leave in September? Thanks for discussing this (minor) matter. The sentence is indeed convoluted, but IMO opinion the details are all relevant to the portrayal of the encounter at the opening of the film. First, as the note says, there is no record of them ever meeting. Given WAM's prodigious letter writing, one would think he had mentioned it. Second, in the film the two seem of similar age – they were not. That Saint-Georges was dubbed "The Black Mozart" is admittedly subject to some dispute, but given the film's scene, it's worth mentioning. Reading Saint-Georges' Wikipedia article, I get the impression that by 1778 he had considerable success as a musician and had premiered his 1st opera and was about to finish his 2nd. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:09, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

According to Banat and the French Wikipedia Mozart and his mother lived at 8, fr:Rue du Sentier (Paris) where she may have died on 3 July 1778. Then Mozart was invited by Madame d'Epinay. So both musicians lived at Chaussee d'Antin at the same time. This makes it harder to believe they never met.Taksen (talk) 13:53, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
