this is an awesome Wikipedia Article on CHS!

I bet the person who put up all the pictures is an awesome person too...

I'm sure their a whole lot more awesome than the person who wrote most of the history on CHS—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ukorim (talkcontribs) 14:22, 19 March 2006

Yah, I agree, this is an awesome article. It does justice to an awesome school! The pictures are cool, but I have more respect for the person who did all the strenous research for the history of the school. That is what really gives us an insight on the school's character, not just some pictures. Thank you whoever did that! Keep adding more!!

^the person who wrote the above comment starting with "yah, I agree..." is different from the person who wrote the stuff before that! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.21.62.209 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 20 March 2006

Who deleted the stuff on the faculty????? and the athletic schedule???? I betcha its those darn albemarle people.

          • MISINFORMATION******

Buford and Walker schools were NEVER high schools. They were built in the late-60's, early-70's as junior high schools. I know I went there. I graduated the last class of Lane High School in 1974. Our Mascot was the Black knight and our colors were Orange and Black. Please verify your historic facts before submitting them.

Looking back at the last year of Lane High School[edit]

I was in the last graduating class of Lane High School. I remember petitions from different students being passed around asking for signatures for various names that the high school would be named. Most of the black kids wanted "Martin Luther King High School", most of the white kids wanted to leave it as "Lane High School". Somehow, it got named "Charlottesville High School". Our mascot was the Black Knight and our school colors Orange and Black, so these were not original to CHS. Lane still stands and is now the Albemarle County Office Building. Walker and Buford "Middle" schools were built around 1968 or so, and were junior high schools. Charlottesville school district was split down the middle of town and half of 7-9th graders went to Walker the other half to Buford. When my class was in the 6th grade (67-68) all 6th grades in the City were sent to Jefferson School (which had once been a black high school). After the 6th grade, we either went to Walker or Buford, and met up again at Lane as sophomores. At no time were Walker or Buford Middle schools (Junior highs) used as high schools. I just wanted to clear up some misinformation I saw in the history of Charlottesville High. Thank you.

Also, desegregation happened many, many years before 1974; actually the Albemarle County and Charlottesville City Schools were desegregated back in 1963-1964. The reason a new high school was built was because the building simply could not hold the increasing number of students that were enrolled. Too bad you all were given false information in your middle school years. I was in the Albemarle County School system from 1962-1964, Private school (Robert E Lee Elementary) from 1964-1965, and then in the Charlottesville school system from 1965-1974. - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.54.77.42 (talk) 16:28, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup[edit]

There's a lot of information here. Some of it is encyclopedic, but some of it is not. I think this article needs a reviewing of people who do not go to Charlottesville High School. There is nothing wrong with contributors who do; in fact, they probably provide the most accurate information, but an objective eye is necessary for pruning.P.L.A.R. 03:02, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope my changes cleaned up this page to a more encyclopedic tone. Some details were taken out, seeming unimportant to the school and not at all specific. This is a very interesting read and I hope that someone would look over my changes for any grammar mistakesLop239 06:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've followed up on Lop239's changes, removing even more details still. This entry suffered from altogether too much information that's of interest to nobody other than current students (as P.L.A.R. lamented a year and a half ago), while simultaneously lacking any information providing a long or a broad view. And, honestly, a lot of bad writing. There's not a great deal of information that I added (most of those improvements are in the form of populating the infobox), but there was quite a bit that I took out—information about the replacement of floor tiles, the painting of a parking lot, totally unsourced POV claims about the sports teams, etc. Slow and steady...--WaldoJ (talk) 03:12, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Charlottesville High School/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

This article is a good start overall. However, being a school, there are plenty of people who enjoy vandalizing it. As long as this is curtailed, that should not be a large problem.

The history of the high school should be longer, with maybe a list of past principals. Also, there is almost no information on school accreditation, testing, etc. This information is boring, but should probably be here anyway.

I would rate this as a stub.
