Who was his spouse?[edit]

The 1919 edition of Who's Who doth say "Violet, 2nd d. of late William Downs, C.E., 1894" but wikisource:en:My Japanese Wife/Chapter 1 refers to 'Hyacinth', nicknamed as Mousmé. However, the dedication is To the real Mousmé with my love so that indicates Hyacinth should be considered fictional. I can find no William Downs in Who Was Who 1897-1915 nor 1916-1928.
