Controversies[edit]

I noticed there was some new material added last week to the "Controversies" section of this page. But several comments were not properly sourced, and the general tone seems to be one-sided. I wanted to bring this to the community's attention to see if we could improve it. Only 3 out of 5 NYC District Attorneys have a Wikipedia entry at all, and Hynes is the only one whose entry has a "Controversies" section!

Taking the issues one at a time, the Roper case seems not especially controversial if it was dismissed and then the follow-up suit thrown out by a federal judge. Is this still notable under those conditions?

The next issue regarding the Orthodox Jewish community begins with an ad hominem attack which seems inappropriate for this medium. I was also able to find other sources which show a different overall picture, or at least a more balanced view. There are articles presenting other legitimate views, such as: NY Daily News, NY Daily News, NY Times, The Jewish Week, DNAInfo

In the case of John Guica, there are many unsubstantiated claims here (called into question by whom?) and the only source is a YouTube video apparently made by pro-Guica campaigners. This whole paragraph seems spurious.

In the final section about Hynes supposedly being granted a Wilson-Pakula, again the sources do not match the claims. The source links are simply to the election results, not to any document mentioning the assertions made in this paragraph.

Can we decide on some new language that covers the case of the Orthodox community more fully? And do we think that the other "controversies" are actually notable at all? I very much agree with the previous post.

This article is filled with one sided material that seems a little like vandalism. There are some parts of the article that are relevant to this biography. I agree with the portion which speak about his persecution of political opponents, the end which discusses sentencing of innocent people, and his comments about a certain race. But many specific cases don't seem to me appropriate for this medium.

There are 3 seperate headlines about the "orthodox community child sex abuse", all seem one sided (especially until a recent edit). The DA deals with hundreds of homicides and thousands of convictions each year which are probably filled with flaws. Why is it so relevant how he deals with "orthodox community child sex abuse"? If it is relevant why does it need three headlines and take off such a large percent of the article?

To me it seems like some individuals did some heavy research on a very specific topic and began flooding the article in order to reach a specific agenda. I don't beleive in removing any properly sourced material, be at least to organize and combine relevant material into one headline.

Life and Early Career[edit]

In the very first paragraph, someone has evidently inserted a long screed about Breezy Point, Queens, where Hynes supposedly now lives, after a sentence about Flatbush, Brooklyn, whre he was born. The purpose of the Breezy Point business evidently is to show Hynes as an elitist or rascist. The problem is that it is not appropriate there (if anywhere) and it is written in a completely over-the-top manner (note the quote of a woman not shown to have any connection with Hynes quoted making a rascist statement.) I couldn't find where this was inserted, so I didn't delete it for fear that the previous edit had deleted material that properly belongs there (and because I know nothing about what the author evidently thinks is an important controversy). But it really needs to be sanitized at least.AnthroMimus (talk) 01:17, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Breezy point material[edit]

2 of the 3 citations aren't really that critical, but do make mention of his 2nd home. Not sure if the Sharpton protest rises to the level of notability for this bio. Maybe include in Sharpton's bio if at all. --Malerooster (talk) 23:21, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
