50 West San Fernando Address

This article wrongfully states the address of Herrold's station broadcasts from San Jose as having occurred at "Fairmont Tower at 50 W. San Fernando St."

I believe that is the correct street number, but the building is still currently known as the Knight Ridder building, since that moniker remains atop the tower. That's even though "Knight Ridder" is not an operating name or company as of year 2006 (i.e., since its being bought out). "The Fairmont San Jose," a hotel, is actually adjacent to Knight Ridder. The historic "Circle of Palms Plaza" is situated between the two buildings. Also adjacent is the old San Jose Post Office building, which has since been incorporated into the "San Jose Museum of Art."

Of course, the Knight Ridder building is NOT the original building from where Herrold broadcasted. This is just the address of the site. The Knight Ridder Building is a newer development; although there is a street marker and a large plaque at the lobby entrance that commemorates Herrold's contributions in radio technology and broadcasting.

The Knight Ridder building is alternately called by its address, simply "50 West San Fernando," or "50 West," while locals also know many of its tenants, including "The (50 West's) Capital Club."

By the way, over the years, a number of current-day broadcast companies have kept office here. Although, those names are not confirmed.

This building, as it stands now, was part of downtown San Jose's 1980s/1990s era redevelopment. It was built (maybe completed) as of year 1989. The Fairmont was built and opened sometime around 1987/1988. --Ca.papavero (talk) 01:05, 16 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have photos of historic commemoration plaques to Herrold that are placed at the 50 West San Fernando address. I would possibly like to add them here, or the page for that building.
