Townships in Pennsylvania

This article is about the Township of Chadds Ford, not about some nebulous region, but the Township. ALL townships within Pennsylvania are COMPLETELY contained within ONE county. In this case, Chadds Ford TOWNSHIP is COMPLETELY within Delaware County. Furthermore, the article's title specifies DELAWARE county. Please refrain from adding "Chester County" to the article. Actually, this township is considered Delaware County AND Chester County, Pennsylvania. Please take a look at this link of Chadds Ford Township and scroll down to the "Earned Income Tax" paragraph. It says:

"CHADDS FORD TOWNSHIP DOES NOT have an Earned Income Tax. However, we are part of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District, which is located in Chester County. Because of this, we are considered a "Chester County Township" pursuant to Act 32. Therefore, if you are an employer in Chadds Ford Township you must collect the Earned Income Tax for each employee according to their domicile and remit those taxes to the Chester County tax agent, Keystone Collections."

Chadds Ford Township lies on the border of both counties, and is in fact considered part of both. Also this article needs to be called Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania. Not Chadds Ford Township, as the Wyeth family lived in the town of Chadds Ford, in Chester County, Pennsylvania. The town itself lies directly on the border. Half of the town is in Delaware County, while the other half is in Chester County.

The fact that they pay certain Chester County taxes does not make them geographically part of Chester County. If you look at the maps on the township's website, absolutely NONE of the township (as in zero) is in Chester County and ALL of it is in Delaware County. Marteau (talk) 22:39, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Ok well my problem with this article is that if you are talking about Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County, then you cannot simply say "Chadds Ford" in the article. You always have to include "township" as Chadds Ford is physically in both Delaware and Chester county. Also the Chadds Ford Winery is NOT in Chadds Ford Township, but in Chadds Ford, Pennsbury Township. So this article is misleading. If you look at the maps on the township's website, absolutely NONE of the township (as in zero) encompasses the area on US Rt.1 between Hickory Hill Road and Chandler Road, which is where the Winery is located. CajunStrongLSU Your concerns have been addressed. The Census Bureau has recognized the cross-border nature of the Chadds Ford community and created prior to the 2020 census the Chadds Ford census-designated place which now gets its own population statistics. If you go to Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, you will get the CDP's article. This article, per the title, is for the Delaware County township only, formerly known as Buckingham Township. Founder

An anon has been adding "Fred Rick Dunaway" as the founder without any reference. I've looked for references for the founder of Chadds Ford - either the township or the village - and haven't found one in any source. I'm sure somebody, somewhere would call John Chadd the founder, but I haven't found even that. Of course the anon just needs to add a ref, but I don't think he can do it. More likely it is just some semi-vandalism, somebody adding his own or a friend's name.

The is some ORish work you can do though Thomas Holmes map (1686 or 1687) shows several landowners in the area - it is the only area with landowners that touches the Brandywine. I see the following names: Daniel Smith, P. Richards, John(?) Jones, P. Ducks, Henry Barnard, W. Brainton, Edw. Baly, and a couple of Harrises. No Dunaways though. Find a ref!.
