Disputed move[edit]

I wish to dispute the move of this page from Carrington, New South Wales (Port Stephens). It may be in the mid-coast council area, but "mid coast" is a very poor description of its location. The mid-north coast area of NSW does not, in popular usage, extend this far south. Newystats (talk) 00:51, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There is no "Mid-Coast" region in New South Wales. There is a Mid North Coast which, if you believe the sign to the right, starts just north of the Hunter River, in Tomago. Regardless, we don't name articles according to the region. Per the naming convention for Australian geographic articles, because we already have Carrington, New South Wales (a suburb of Newcastle), we include additional disambiguation in the form of the LGA name, in this case Mid-Coast Council, so the article is located correctly at Carrington, New South Wales (Mid-Coast Council) per the convention. (I did point to WP:NCAUST in my reversion of your move.[1]) Carrington, New South Wales (Port Stephens) is completely incorrect. Carrington is neither in the Port Stephens Council LGA or the adjacent natural harbour. It was in Great Lakes Council prior to the merge of that LGA with others, which formed Mid-Coast Council. --AussieLegend (✉) 07:36, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It IS on the body of water Port Stephens.

No it's not. The suburb only extends to the high-tide mark, finishing where the body of water starts.^[1] Two Carringtons are listed at that reference, you'll need to select the correct one. They share a common border, but the suburb is not in the body of water, and the body of water is not in the suburb. The border between the two is part of the border between the Port Stephens and Mid-Coast Councils. --AussieLegend (✉) 08:51, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Did I say "in" the body of water? I said "on". Just as any other town that isn't an island is "on" a body of water.

This is still completely irrelevant. We disambiguate, in this case, by the state and the LGA in which the suburb is located, per WP:NCAUST, as already explained. The body of water is not an LGA. The suburb is in the Mid-Coast Council LGA. --AussieLegend (✉) 04:32, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
