There is a dispute though. The mainstream view is that calorie intake being higher than expenditure is the cause of weight gain, regardless of the glycemic index/glycemic load/amount of carbohydrates consumed, etc. (t · c) buidhe 21:38, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For a long time it was mainstream that the earth was flat.
Just because it is "mainstream" does not mean is is the correct or the beast model.
