Frederick Dent[edit]

Candidate for Oxley. I'm not sure how best to describe him. Currently he's listed as Ind Lab, but that's not right -- the Brisbane Courier reported him as Labour and corrected it the next day. In that linked article he's instead described as "standing in the democratic interest". I don't know if that's an actual party I haven't heard of or if it's meant in the sense of making a democratic contest instead of allowing Edwards a walkover. My best guess is to just call him an independent, but I'm finding myself quite unconfident with party affiliations in the early 20th century. Pappubahry (talk) 12:01, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect it's more a case of a descriptor - we might call him an Independent Democrat, I guess, but that would be pushing it. It's a bit like how people ran as "Independent Liberals" when there was no actual "Liberal Party". I think Independent is fine.
