Proposed rewrite of article[edit]

Campus Consortium Foundation is a leading non-profit higher education association.[1] Founded in 2003, Campus Consortium connects more than 37,000 education institutions and K-12 schools to reduce the time, cost, and effort needed to increase their access to innovative technologies.[2]

Campus Consortium Foundation was founded by fourteen institutions—including Case Western Reserve University, University of Nevada Las Vegas, the University of Montana,[3] and Oklahoma State University [4] —in response to increasing IT budget cuts, resource constraints, and the needs of incoming students.

History[edit]

Campus Consortium Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit in Ohio by Executive Director, now Chairman, Anjli Jain in June 2003.

The Executive Advisory Committee was established in June 2004 composed of CIOs from various member campuses.

In June 2005, the company received a grant from the City of Cleveland to move its headquarters from the BioEnterprise incubator located on the Case Western Reserve University campus to downtown Cleveland. The following August, Campus Consortium received a Certificate of Recognition from the Mayor of Cleveland in recognition of the Consortium's active participation in creating a new IT industry in Cleveland and for the organization's dedication to servicing higher education.

Initiatives[edit]

Campus Consortium prioritizes connecting education institutions and K-12 schools with innovative technology by leveraging shared IT services, lessons, and virtual guidance. Their initiatives include:

• EdTalks: an international, interactive roundtable that focuses on the challenges and opportunities of the modern Internet and higher education. Each talk is led by industry leaders in tech and education and consists of a 60-minute program where the audience and panel interact. These are then broadcasted over the Internet and are free to watch. Previous EdTalks have included Harvard University,[5] Purdue University,[6] Stanford University,[7] and Cisco.[8]

• Partnered with leading tech firms to sponsor Grants for educational institutions. These Grants are designed to provide winners with additional tech services, such as after-hours help desks,[9] student information systems,[10] as well as admission and recruitment.[11]

• Peer Consulting to establish mentorship relations between higher education and other schools for transitioning to online and remote education. These mentorships connect schools with professors at leading colleges and universities, including La Salle University, Princeton University, Arizona State University, and more.[12]

• Open Source initiative program, known as Student Success Data Science & Analytics® (SSDSA), to assist schools predict students that might be at risk of dropping out via machine learning, live chatting, and unique language for student data.[13]

• Identify and analyze how specific technology is performing in the higher education system via their Magic Box program,[14] which is inspired by the Gartner Magic Quadrant.[15] The Magic Box culminates research and graphs on specific markets to provide people with an overview on their technology services.

Philanthropy[edit]

Since its founding in 2003, Campus Consortium has provided information technology grants to higher education institutions and public sector agencies through its Grant Program. The Campus Grant Program is designed for institutions seeking to implement an internet/intranet Portal. Recipients of the grant receive financial and organizational assistance in integrating a portal into existing systems and protocols for online and distance education, SIS software and administrative computing, school and organization web properties, student-based web publishing, wireless and e-commerce initiatives.

In February 2010, the Campus Grant Program was featured as part of the White House Initiative on historically black colleges and universities.[22] The initiative was established in 1980 by President Jimmy Carter as a federal program to help historically black colleges and universities overcome the effects of discriminatory treatment and provide quality education. The program exists today to help strengthen the capacity of historically black colleges and universities to provide excellence in education. Campus Consortium has also been featured in Maryland's Governor's Grants Office list.
