Photos, etc -- can anyone add?[edit]

Berkshires[edit]

Eidot or Edot?[edit]

Someone who has good reason for one form of transliteration over the other might make the appropriate change across all the Camp Ramah articles. How does Camp Ramah itself spell it? Is there no mention of eidot/edot on any of their websites?--DLandTALK 20:20, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you might expect ... both ways. For example, eidah is used at [1], [2], and [3]. But edah is used at [4], [5], and [6].--Epeefleche 20:53, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I wrote to Camp Ramah. They responded as follows. "Different camps use different transliterations. The National Ramah office uses "edah." However, when the National Ramah office reprints an article or email that has originated in a camp that uses "eidah," we do not change the spelling of "eidah" if that's the way it appears in the original material. In our National Ramah newspaper, Kolot Ramah, we aim for consistency within individual articles but not throughout the entire publication." Given that, I guess we could for Wiki purposes either: a) standardize with edah; or b) do what the National Ramah office does and not standardize. I note that Camp Ramah Darom, btw, does not even standardize in its own articles. Thoughts? --Epeefleche 20:06, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the National Ramah office uses edah officially, then that's the way we should do it. In Wikipedia there is no concept of preserving "original material" - the material is constantly changing and there is no static prototype. --DLandTALK 20:42, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's funny... as the person who started the Camp Ramah in California article and originally wrote Eidot, I find it funny that there has been a war going on (albeit two months ago) regarding the proper spelling of Eidot versus Edot. Honestly, and this may seem strange, I prefer Edot. Eidot does more justice to the correct pronounciation of the Hebrew plural term, but Edot seems more natural. I don't know why I added the "i" in the first place as I usually spell it Edot. I did start out by spelling the singular "Edah" without an I so perhaps I should have kept with consistency anyway. There is no standard on transliteration in Hebrew and many communities have different dialects. I think the Conservative Movement officially uses "US Sephardic", using pronunciations like "Sha-Baht" for Shabbat, et al. and perhaps that is the standard of how to pronounce/spell words relating to Conservative Judaism, similar to the exclusive use of British spellings in relation to Harry Potter articles. Camp Ramah in Muskoka[edit]

Why isn't the name of Camp Ramah in Muskoka just that, instead of "Camp Ramah in Canada"? Other camps take the name of a region or state--why not this one? "Canada" is much too vague, while "Muskoka" has a charm and heritage of summer camps and cottages. Moreover, using Muskoka would be consistent with other names in the system. If the Berkshires and Poconos are acknowledged, surely Muskoka should be. Yoho2001 (talk) 09:30, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's because, let's face it, almost no one in the U.S. has heard of Muskoka, and Americans make up a sizable portion of the camp's population. Since there's no other Camp Ramah in Canada, why not call it Camp Ramah in Canada? proposed merge from Mador (Camp Ramah[edit]
