Discussion[edit]

I've added this page as an assignment for Brian Carver's WikiProject: Cyberlaw at UC Berkeley's School of Information. Appreciate feedback for how it can be improved. Hi there and welcome to Wikipedia! I happened to catch this article when it came up on Special:NewPages and was quite impressed with its quality. As you can imagine, you see a lot of nonsense coming through there, so it's always great to see something so well thought out. It's great to have your class working in this area.

A criticism section would be a nice addition, though I'd probably make it a "Reception" section with both positive and negative commentary. If there just aren't sources for it, that's ok too. Another thing to consider would be an "Effects" section to discuss the results of the act (if any). Has it driven any change in privacy practices? Have any businesses been sued for violations? Has the act made any information known that was previously secret? I don't know if there are sources for this kind of discussion either, though the Hoofnagle and King paper seems generally along the right lines. I see a follow-up study here] too. There are also some stats from Larry Ponemon on the EPIC page that seem relevant. Wonder if anyone can get his actual paper, as the link there is dead? Hey, thanks! I've actually done a couple other pages in the past, so it's not a total hazing :) I like the idea of an effects section. I could literally link to a bunch of privacy policies from notable companies that include the phrase "Your California Rights" just to give an example of how it's impacted the way privacy policies must be written.
