I'm linking OLR to Offline_mail_reader, but clearly an OLR does more than read mail. The existing OLR article is about climatology, so to do this properly it needs a disambiguation page pointing to a proper article (stub) about offline readers, which in turn points to offline mail readers. Notable users, past and present[edit]

I think that it would be of some interest to list notable cixen past and present. It may even get more people interested in cix. Perhaps people could start a list. I know of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Cherie Booth, the entire Liberal Democrat party (at some point at least; don't know if they still use it), Davey Winder (IT journalist), Guy Kewney (the IT journalist that was going to be interviewed on IT related stuff live on the Beeb and instead they interview some random bloke that was waiting in reception for a job interview) and others I can't remember. And of course dear Sasha Lubetkin, daughter of the famous architect and wibble queen of cix 86.138.93.41 15:33, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just to confirm - yes, the Lib Dems do still use it, although the number of Lib Dem cixen has diminished from its peak and the Lib Dems now also use a number of alternative web-based fora. In the glory years of Lib Dem CIX usage, then party leader Paddy Ashdown was a cixen so the private Lib Dem member-only CIX conferences provided a direct route for exchange of views between a selection of grassroot activists and the party leadership. 80.229.220.14 13:57, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The conference list[edit]

One of the failings of CIX was the inability to deal with spam. I, and many others, received huge volumes of spam and ceased to use the cix.co.uk address as a result. AMEOL had some limited options to filter it out but really it should have been managed at the server end. Difficulty leaving[edit]

Why no mention of the way CIX bills and the fact that it's impossible to withdraw their right to bill you every month. It can be years since you had any contact with them and your credit card number can have been changed many times yet they are still able to keep billing you each month. Because Wikipedia isn't a venue for people to air individual grievances and unfounded axe-grinding. Like any other company, if you sign up with Cix, you need to cancel if you no longer wish to use - and be billed for - their services. You've entered into what your credit card company calls a 'continuous authority' for billing and that persists even if your card number is changed for some reason. You consented to it, to pay for the services provided by the company you signed up with. You can hardly complain about still being charged if you haven't bothered to cancel.
