Name[edit]

Does the name Bronski Beat have anything to do with Jan Bronski in The Tin Drum?

Tell me Why[edit]

There has been a popular mid-90's remix of this track for a while, it seems to be a mash of "Smalltown Boy" / "Why", but it wasn't the Supermode version, the beat wasn't the same and it was slower. Does anyone know the track?

Almond singing lyrics "incorrectly"[edit]

Do cover versions have to reproduce the original lyrics exactly? And who is the ultimate authority on what the true lyrics are? How about songs with double entendres? Richard Coles membership?[edit]

In the article Richard Coles it is stated that he "joined Bronski Beat (initially on saxophone) in 1983", but this is not mentioned here.

Looking back in the history of that article, the following changes is of interest: [1] This indicates that (the editor concerned believed) Coles was not a member of the band, but did play (clarinet) on one of the hit singles. However, the both aspects of this change have been undone before the current version.

It's clear to me that he was not. Assuming these personnel credits are correct, Coles was one of several hired session musicians. And in the interview linked just above, Coles explicitly talks about Bronski Beat in the third person; Somerville formed the band with "two other guys," and then Coles saw them on Top of the Pops.
