Class 319[edit]

British rail Class 331 EMUs only displaced the British rail class 319, Northern still operate the british rail class 319.

Northern’s fleet of British rail class 319 EMUs will be replaced by British rail class 323 EMUs from West midlands trains reference below.

Describing one class of train as having replaced another has difficulties. It's OK if a brand-new class first entered service on a route where at the same time an older class was withdrawn for scrapping, as happened with the initial delivery of Class 317 - it directly replaced Class 127 on the Moorgate/St Pancras to Bedford route. But when Class 319 was introduced, it went to the same routes - and the class 317 units weren't scrapped, they were sent to the lines out of Liverpool Street. So did class 319 replace class 317? In a way, but not entirely. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 08:21, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
