Screening July 2008[edit]

I went to a pre-screening of this 2008 upcoming film adaptation of Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited" in Cambridge. It was Waugh at his most complicated (religion, sexuality, etc.) but the cast performed brilliantly. The film isn't for every rock and roller, but it's a more modern take on the novel. The major characters were especially brilliant. Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell were especially sharp in their roles. Emma Thompson was her usual brilliant self. Quite frankly, so were the other players, equally brilliant.

There was an discussion with Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell after the pre-screening and they were quite interesting in person. One person in the audience asked, if one remembers correctly, something to the effect of how one might have the audacity to make a film adaptation after such a brilliant TV series with Jeremy Irons back in the 1980s ... and Ms. Atwell cleverly but kindly began her answer with "Although I'm tempted to laugh ..." which was appropriate. Things get re-made and have a new twist all the time. All just a Midsummer's Night's report from America. --- (Bob) Wikiklrsc (talk) 19:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
