Untitled[edit]

The estimate I found for WW2 population was only 72500. 24.22.227.53 13:58, 18 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ferry Time[edit]

It is actually 60 minutes to get from Bremerton to Seattle. 5 min loading, 50 trip and 5 min, unloading.

My bad on the crossing time.

Who is Andrew Alexander?[edit]

Who is Andrew Alexander and why should he be listed in this article? --8bitJake 20:23, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Johnny Carson was never a Bremerton resident[edit]

This information should be moved to a "Trivia" category and taken out of the Notable Bremertonians category. To my knowledge, he never lived there and was born in Iowa.

The Tonight Show show host Johnny Carson was stationed aboard the USS Pennsylvania (BB-38) while it was in Bremerton for repairs following a 1945 torpedo strike.

Location[edit]

"It is located on the Kitsap Peninsula north of Sinclair Inlet and west of the body of water known as Port Orchard." Port Orchard is not a body of water. It is on the water, but is actually a small town. Arinna 21:01, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Arinna[reply]

You are correct. I've fixed it. If you see something is wrong with an article don't be afraid, go ahead, be bold and jump right in and change it. NeoFreak 23:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As a recent editor noted, Port Orchard is a correct name for both a town and a body of water adjacent to that town. Mlouns 16:06, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The town is named after the body of water but the town is much more prominent, similar to say Tampa Bay in Florida, and Bremerton is north, not west of both. If you want reference the body of water and not the town I don't think it's that big of a deal either way though. NeoFreak 18:28, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chop Shop[edit]

Should it be mentioned that the MxPx song, "Chop Shop" took place in Bremerton? -DarkZero

MXPX photo in the notible residents section[edit]

The MXPX article has a photo of Mayor Bozman presenting the band with keys to the city. I am tempted to put the photo in the notible residents section. --8bitJake (talk) 22:47, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Bremertonians who do not have wikipedia articles[edit]

A recent edit removes names from the list of notable Bremertonians. Here the use of the term "notable" may be confusing. The inclusion of facts within an article has a different standard than for a stand alone article. If a fact is verifiable, and it is the consensus of the editors to include similar facts, then I don't think one editor can just decide to remove that content without a discussion here.

I'm aware that there is a problem with vandalism, and spam in this area. But if we are going to have a section for individual Bremertonians of some significance then there should be some standard. I think changing the word from "notable" to "prominent" and including individuals who have made national or international news, even if they do not merit a stand alone article would be fine.

Alternatively, if it is the consensus of editors to limit the list to those with internal links to stand alone articles, then that would be a fine consensus. But I have not seen that discussion here, yet. - Michael J Swassing (talk) 00:47, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the absence of discussion about this, and recognizing a continuing problem of vandalism in this section, I'm going to endorse the current practice of limiting inclusion of Bremertonians to those who are notable enough for a stand alone article. But I would be interested to see how other articles about medium sized towns with an actively transient population have handled this issue. - Michael J Swassing (talk) 20:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to get technical. Active duty military personal and military dependent families at the shipyard, Naval Base Kitsap, Keyport and NBK Bangor are not in Bremerton, Kitsap County or Washington State. Also the “Bremerton area north of East Bremerton“ in unincorporated Kitsap County is not legally Bremerton.

If you compare this article with the article on Whidbey Island they don’t have a section on “Notable Residents”. They also have a sizable military population due to the close by Navy base.

People add their friends or themselves to this article at least twice a week. It’s a creep issue and it is the most popular part of the article. I could easily consider myself notable given the media and campaigns that I’ve been involved in but we need to have draw the line somewhere or it would look like the phonebook.--8bitJake (talk) 21:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm with you on that. I had an opinion to soon earlier. It clearly is a problem. Would the article be improved by removing the section "Notable Bremertonians?" - Michael J Swassing (talk) 00:59, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it should be removed but it should be watched so it does not get out of control. --8bitJake (talk) 20:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons[edit]

I notice that the article currently uses {{commons}} to link the Commons gallery page Commons:Bremerton, Washington. All this really shows are a few aerial views. Commons:Category:Bremerton, Washington has a lot more. Either someone should work on the gallery page or the article should use {{commonscat}} to link the category page instead. I don't really care which, but if no one feels like working on the gallery, then let's just use {{commonscat}}. - Jmabel | Talk 07:02, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed - using commonscat 50.47.195.198 (talk) 20:42, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NPOV[edit]

I've tagged the 1990-present section because it functions more as a 'List of every single bad thing that's happened in Bremerton since 1990' section. Let's face it, if 40 people standing around a police car and the death of two police dogs are the worst thing that happened in a city of 40,000 people in nearly 20 years, well, make up your own mind about what Bremerton's like as compared to the impression the section intends to create.FrFintonStack (talk) 23:24, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More aerial photos[edit]

I realise you already have some aerial photos, but feel free to use these new ones if they're useful. Dcoetzee 03:36, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sister Cities[edit]

As of now, the cited source for sister cities ( http://www.ltgov.wa.gov/International/Washington%20Organizations/Sisters/ ) only lists Kure, Japan and not Olongapo, Philippines as referenced in the article. I don't frequently edit, so I'm not sure what should be done for it but I imagine more investigation should be done before removing it outright. --Dewiniaid (talk) 21:01, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Only Kure, Japan is listed on the city's site(https://www.bremertonwa.gov/215/Sister-City). Olongapo is mentioned in some minor news articles, but I don't think that merits inclusion in the Wikipedia entry. I did remove Olongapo from the entry, but that was reversed by another editor, so it may be worthy of discussion. Sadine83 (talk) 23:39, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Grammatical Issues[edit]

Adjusted a few words in History:1890s for grammatical correctness and removed what appeared to be a parenthetical of an author thinking to him/herself. Iddr (talk) 04:48, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Neighborhoods[edit]

Bremerton has several unique neighborhoods. How would I go about including those in the article? Kswalthall (talk) 08:05, 15 January 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kswalthall (talkcontribs) 07:43, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
