Thirds[edit]

What in the world is a "Thirds". That section should be touched up or removed as it makes no sense.R00m c 20:10, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- well do it! Victuallers 09:17, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have tried to improve this section, based on fairly limited knowledge of the school. 210.4.144.66 (talk) 15:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds better I think.R00m c (talk) 19:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thirds are the competitive groupings within the school. Due to the boarding houses being called houses the need for another name arose and as such the school was divided into 3, since then the school has expanded leading to another three thirds leaving us with six 'thirds'

Inter-thirds[edit]

the Inter-Thirds are in fact called inter-thirds, not thirds. I am a student of this school and you can see evidence for the name via https://twitter.com/boxhillschool/status/788768586202542080?lang=en-GB by the logic you want to remove this again, maybe remove the entire Inter-Thirds section as this was originally sourceless but is factual. JcwDenno (talk) 11:25, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Source issues on this page[edit]

Just noting that there is a lot of content on this page which is sourceless, it is justified however as it is all factual. it is hard to justify falsifiability on many of the topics on this page as the school does not openly publish a lot. for example, the inter-thirds section has no source, but it is agreed to be true. would be nice if the school published something that could make this Wikipedia more golden JcwDenno (talk) 14:05, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

JcwDenno I do not agree with your assertion that unsourced material 'is justified however as it is all factual' or that the inter-thirds section 'is agreed to be true' see WP:V. What the school says about itself is of little interest or use to this encyclopaedia.SovalValtos (talk) 19:06, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Then I don't understand what to do. Do we ask the school to confirm? Its a headbanger JcwDenno (talk) 19:15, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the unsourced Inter-Thirds section JcwDenno. The naming of groups Inter-Thirds may derive from a misunderstanding. You could help further by providing already published independent reliable sources for other uncited material in the article. References should be provided in the conventional way rather than attempting so to do in an edit summary.SovalValtos (talk) 00:57, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Inter-thirds surely is not the name of a group or groups JcwDenno. The groups may be called thirds but inter-thirds would be referring to competition between thirds (inter=between). Anything from Twitter is unlikely to be a reliable source due to lack of editorial fact checking. A 2016 post on Twitter cannot possibly support 'is assigned to' in 2023. Please read carefully the section 'Introduction to referencing' I posted under the title Welcome on your talk page. Best wishes.SovalValtos (talk) 11:02, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It is it's name, i go to the school. JcwDenno (talk) 13:38, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JcwDenno. They were always known as Thirds. As SovalValtos notes Inter-thirds refers (or certainly referred) to competitions between the Thirds. I am a former pupil so I am basing this on past rather than current experience, but I would be very surprised if that change had been made, considering it doesn't really make any grammatical (or otherwise) sense.Grosseteste (talk) 16:03, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update. The current school year (2023-24) boarding handbook refers to 'Thirds' and 'Inter-Third' competition. I am restoring the section on Thirds and making use of this reference.Grosseteste (talk) 17:28, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
