Untitled[edit]

I'm shocked to see that there are no posts here. Bumbling my way onto BookTV was the most moving event since I stumbled onto Wiki. After over fifty years of reading journalism, biography and other "non-fiction" I will never forget the day I first saw either of them. I am a member of the [Ridgewriters], of Farmington Hills, Michigan. My wife and I have been attending most Friday meetings for over four years, sometimes sharing our writing for critique, and sometimes enjoying and constructively criticizing the works of fellow writers.

A church friend referenced Wiki in a document he had prepared for the church board of directors. As soon as I got home from the meeting, I googled Wiki, joined on the spot, and soon thereafter shared my newfound universe with on-line friends and the Ridgewriter's. One of my on-line friends said, "...anybody can write anything on it, so it couldn't be any good!" Well, it didn't take reading much Wiki feedback for me to realize that's about the stupidest comment I ever heard.

My writer friends were a little more receptive--one of them brought me a recent newspaper clipping about Wiki after I shared my first Wiki contribution there. I had "filled in" some blanks in my ship's history--(See USS Mullany DD528). I'm currently subscribing to the CSpan/BookTV, and Turner Classic Movies,(TCM) newsletters since Government Access, the Weather Channel, the Learning Channel, Discovery, the Travel Channel, CBC, PBS and Animal Planet are the only excuses I can think of to justify owning a TV. My dog Zeke would likely never speak to me again if I got rid of AP. And I don't know what I might do if I run out of blank tapes--yikes! I'll miss the Senate, House, City Council and those zany antics in Lansing, Question Period in London and Ottawa! NO WAY to record BookTV from Saturday at 1000 UTC to Monday at 1000 UTC??? How can I keep my nose glued to the screen that long???--W8IMP 23:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again W8IMP. I agree, Book TV is a pretty good program. Welcome to Wikipedia!. We can always use another good writer. It's normal for a relatively new user to get the impression that Wikipedians are a bit cantankerous - there are so many rules and guidelines - such as WP:TALK which says that Talk pages are used to discuss an article, a template, a category, etc., while user talk pages are used to communicate with other users or leave them messages. In fact I'm certain someone will come along and remind you that the article talk pages aren't meant to be general discussion forums :-) --- LuckyLouie 01:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed replacement draft[edit]

Hello there. I would like to propose a replacement of this article with a new version that I have recently researched and drafted. The new version can be found in my user space, here: User:WWB_Too/Book TV. The current article has few references and gives a very narrow overview of the subject. The new draft expands the article to cover key information previously missing from the article and rearranges it into more logical subject headings.

As a point of disclosure, in the last few months I have been working with C-SPAN's communications team, improving other articles related to the network. In each case I have disclosed my involvement and sought input from other editors and at relevant WikiProjects, and have received positive feedback from editors each time. As with previous drafts that I have proposed, I have made a significant effort to ensure that the draft has reliable sources, is worded neutrally and that all material included is encyclopedic. Despite the uncontroversial nature of the topic, I would like to invite another editor to review the draft and offer any comments, due to my potential COI.
