Discussion[edit]

Section 5.3: '... near Bonar Bridge, in Munro country' - I question the validity of this statement, and a similar one made in the linked Clan Sutherland article. To best of my knowledge the Clan Munro has never held title in the vicinity of Bonar, it is certainly false to claim that Bonar is in Munro country or that any of the places close by (Invershin, Spinningdale, Ardgay, Mid Fearn) are. Thus if you have a reference then please add it if not then I would suggest this is updated. Iainross 15:50, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will check my sources for the mention of "Munro country", as it's not based on personal knowledge/opinion, but on a source I have read recently. Andrew Mackenzie (talk) 14:05, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iain, I have found a reference to the Battle (shown at the other Wikipedia Entry "Battle of Bonar") from the Sutherland Clan history. As it doesn't mention that Munroe text I have chanegd my entry to relfect that and link to the other article. If I find my reference I'll post it here in the talk tob for discussion. Bridges[edit]

I've removed some of the advertising and re-edited the section on the first bridge (as it is quite historically significant). The rest of it is up to someone else as my main interest was in the bridge! -- Kvetner 12:20, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "Third Bridge" mentioned refers to the third Bonar Bridge. This is a quite different structure in a different place to the "Dornoch Bridge" so I have undone the changes made to this Wiki entry in that area. Andrew Mackenzie (talk) 14:12, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Geo tagging[edit]

I have tried and failed to use the Geo-tagging mechanism of Wikipedia to have a link to this Bonar Bridge Wiki page appear when you browse the area with Google Maps (maps.google.com). This seems to work fine for Ardgay Railway station which does appear (you need to check the WikiPedia box in the "More" drop-down menu. I tried to follow the instructions (and fine tuned the coordinates to get them spot on the Church....) but can't get it to work. Any advice or help on how to get that working is much appreciated. Relevance of Wade roads[edit]

I question the relevance of:

"After the defeat of the Highland clans at the Battle of Culloden in 1746, the "taming of the north" began, and a network of highland roads was constructed by the government, with many planned and executed by General Wade."

in the section "First bridge". The river crossing, and roads into Sutherland were completely uninfluenced by Wade roads. The article quotes the plaque that explains that the first bridge was financed under an act of parliament of 1803, but the mention seems to be subsidiary to the statement on Wade roads - rather ignoring the fact that the 1803 act was the driving force in getting the bridge built.

I suggest that the part of the section quoted above is deleted.
