Official name[edit]

At the site yesterday, I found a mix of signs for Bluestone WMA and Bluestone Lake WMA. The park website says Bluestone WMA but the WVDNR listing of WMAs at http://www.wvdnr.gov/Hunting/D4WMAareas.shtm#47d4 lists Bluestone Lake WMA. Considering that the WMAs around the other USACE lakes all have Lake in the name, I assume that is the correct current name. Brian Powell (talk) 00:44, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I contacted the WVDNR Wildlife Resources Section about the official name of the WMA, which they told me is Bluestone Lake WMA. Copy of e-mail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:WVDNR_Bluestone_Lake_WMA_Name.pdf Brian Powell (talk) 16:05, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I, the resident Superintendent, do not agree with your research. First, WVDNR is divided into sections in which two of them operate on Bluestone WMA. They are Parks and Recreation Section (State Parks) and Wildlife Resources Section (Wildlife). Second, the picture you posted is the current state park sign and in NOT an older sign as you have listed. Third, the name we operate under and is listed in thousands of websites, brochures and letterhead is Bluestone Wildlife Management Area.
I invite you to my office to confirm what I have stated and do take issue with your false information. One email from an employee who handles bear problems does not constitute your investigative skills to perfection. I also intend to file a complaint with Wikipedia on this issue.
State Parks have the only office and residence on the area and manages the recreation on the WMA. I can provide documentation for the correct name and you should also google Bluestone WMA and see all the correct websites. Yes google is just like wikipedia, suggestions.
Thank you,
Rob Sovine, Superintendent
Bluestone Wildlife Management Area

Rob, please understand that I'm not trying to attack you or say you're wrong. Wikipedia has standards for citations - there needs to be third-party evidence for the name. (See WP:RELIABLE.) I contacted the Wildlife Resources Section to inquire about the name and I already attached the answer I got from the person who replied to their e-mail account.
At best, WVDNR is extremely inconsistent with the name for the WMA. There are signs for both versions on site. I've seen some publications with both versions in the same article, including one from Wildlife Resources Section at [1] and one from Parks & Recreation Section at [2]. WVNDR has used both versions in the Code of State Regulations [3][4]. As I noted earlier, having "Lake" in the name would be consistent with all of the other WMAs at USACE lakes and it would also seem logical from the standpoint of differentiating with Bluestone State Park.
I would encourage you to follow proper Wikipedia procedures to provide third-party sources for your contention. Brian Powell (talk) 02:39, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did also want to point out that WVDNR Parks & Recreation Section has a tendency to fudge names a bit. For instance, what it markets as "Stonewall Resort"[5][6][7] and "Stonewall Resort State Park" [8] is legally Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park as per WV Code §20-5-16[9]. This is also built around a USACE lake and the wildlife management area here is "Stonewall Jackson Lake Wildlife Management Area" [10]. Brian Powell (talk) 03:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you are slandering the West Virginia State Park system and will forward this message to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Also, take your own advice and you not print your opinion and unfounded conclusions. I stated facts and will stand behind them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rsovine (talkcontribs) 22:51, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oh grow up! Skinsmoke (talk) 02:52, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am hardly slandering the Division of Natural Resources. Their own usage it inconsistent as I have demonstrated through numerous citations from State-maintained websites. Feel free to forward this to whatever authorities you feel are appropriate as there is nothing to investigate.
In the interest of putting this issue to rest, I will agree to using the "Bluestone Wildlife Management Area" name that User:rsovine advocates. This name seems to be used reasonably consistently (although not always - see [11] for an example from March 10, 2010) by the WVDNR Parks & Recreation Section. As shown in numerous links I have provided previously, WVDNR Wildlife Resources Section appears to use "Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management Area."
I would still suggest to User:Rsovine that he provide a citation from WVDNR headquarters documenting his preferred usage of the name. I have already provided an e-mail from the Wildlife Resources Section documenting "Bluestone Lake" as the correct version. Per Wikipedia policy, original research or simply stating you know something to be true without documenting it is inappropriate.
I will request to have the article moved to Bluestone Wildlife Management Area. Brian Powell (talk) 23:09, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

Bluestone Lake Wildlife Management AreaBluestone Wildlife Management Area — Naming dispute somewhat resolved. Agree touse WVDNR Parks & Recreation version of name since they have the most developed facilities on site even though WVDNR Wildlife Resources Section says current article name is correct.
