Moved / merged with Stressholme Golf Club[edit]

The course moved its location, taking over the old Stressholme Golf Club; the article needs to be updated accordingly; see e.g. http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/10517391.End_of_an_era_as_land_swap_golf_club_takeover_completed/#comments — Preceding unsigned comment added by MagRudolfMayer (talkcontribs) 21:22, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article/section length[edit]

Hi! I think the section about the course is just a little too long. I don't think it's necessary to have such a detailed description of the course structure and so I propose that that section be restructured to improve the article =) SMC89 09:24, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe this is advertising, as if this is advertising then surely every article on a golf course on wikipedia should be deleted too, as they also discuss the same issue. To play at Blackwell you would also require membership, which people do not have, so advertising would do little good, though nowhere in the article does it tell people to play there, or that playing there would benefit anybody. Many golf courses are written about on wikipedia on the same way, so if this article is up for deletion then it should hold true with the other articles regarding golf courses. If some parts seem like advertising, then please delete those, however i do not believe that deletion of the whole article is neccesary, as most of it is fact and as an encyclopedia reference, rather than advertising. I have removed the speedy tags. I removed the worst offending paragraph (and placed it below) in relation to advertising, I cannot see how this could be interpretated as anything other than blatant advertising. The rest of the article needs a lot of work if it is to survive.Teiresias84 09:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The club house itself is situated just off from the eighteenth green and serves hot meals all day, which are well received by players and members alike. The general atmosphere of the club is very friendly and the members of the club are nice in their treatment of others. The club shop is also well stocked, which though small, provides everything necessary for a good game. The club house also has rooms that could be used for conferences and gatherings. Blackwell is a very friendly and relatively enjoyable course, and gives a thoroughly good game of golf.

I have re-structured "The Course" paragraph so that it gives a more appealing read, and so its layout and structure are better and more appealing.

Without the final paragraph it the article now still too long, or is it now agreeable and the length post could be deleted from it.

Firstly I could I ask that when you make a comment on a talk page that you put four twidle marks (~) at the end. The MediaWiki software will sign the post for you, so I know who I am talking to.
Ok the article is looking a little better, but still it needs work. I suggest you look at some of the articles on this page to get an idea of how other articles on golf courses are written.
Could you please add the location of the golf course. You say it's in the Blackwell area of Darlington. Where is that? What country/state/region etc. I have no idea personally, and you need to write encyclopedia articles assuming that people reading it have no idea too.
Also you need to add referenced statements explaining why this course is more important than the thousands that exist around the world. Have important tournaments been played here? Has this course been mentioned in the mainstream press? etc
It is not necessary to describe every hole in the course. Give a one or two paragraph summary of the nature of the course. Use references to back up what your saying. It's not good enough for you to write from your own experiences. That violates the policy of No original research.
I think its great you've decided to become a Wikipedian. However I feel you need to read up on Notability and Manuel of Style to understand what is needed to create a good article. Feel free to ask any questions at my talk page.Teiresias84 10:21, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Even though i wrote this, i now believe that it is not suitabl for wikipedia, and i think now alos, that it should be deleted from wikipedia. Davo119 10:43, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to delete a page from Wikipedia where you a have been the only main contributor, place this - {{db-author}} - at the top of the article and an admin will delete it for you. Regards, Teiresias84 10:54, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A word of encouragement: Don't let all this put you off =) As far as I'm concerned, the main problem is the article length and that's mainly due to the fact that your info on the structure of the course and its holes is very detailed, which is a credit to your hard work but probably not necessary! I think this would be an even better contribution if you could put some more information in regarding the club itself since that's the title of the article. Good luck, SMC89 10:59, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the section about the course, as this was clearly a big problem. I have written more about the course in general, trying to keep it short, though. If you have any more suggestions regarding the article i would be happy to take them on board to try to improve the article. Davo119 13:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good job, I've added a couple of headings for you and that might help you if you want to add further information. Of course, feel free to add other headings. Does the club have a website? If so you might consider adding it as either a reference or an external link. Also if you have a photo that you've taken or you find a fair use image, you could upload it and add that to the article and that would make it look even better! I've answered my own question about the website with a google search =) SMC89 14:05, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for improving the article, it is actually looking presentable now :) lol, i will try to obtain a photo I have taken or from somewhere else suitable to use to improve it further, thank you. Davo119 21:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
