There should be a chemical explanation to this reaction. For example the peptide link is broken etc etc. 194.204.110.244 07:47, 15 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Biruet test is made by combining copper sulfate solution and sodium hydroxide solution. This mixture is then added to what you want to test for protein, eg. beef stock.

The colour of the mixture if there is presence of proteins turns violet and then blue.

shouldn't it be sodium hydroxide and not potassium hyroxide? on the main page it read that you use KOH. 219.78.0.209 (talk) 07:35, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a mistake here? Isn't the test the Lowry et al test and not the Folin et al test? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.167.238.3 (talk) 15:11, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted a obscure part that mentioned something about starch in the biuret solution, which is obviously wrong.

Hi. What would happen if an adolescent drank 4 oz of biuret reagent? I'm planning some science activities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Minorview (talkcontribs) 00:40, 26 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The reduction part from Cu2+ to Cu+ is misleading, the complex is formed with Cu2+ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.248.1.31 (talk) 13:39, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Buiret Test For Protein[edit]

Add soduim hydroxide solution followed by weak copper sulphate solution.if the pale blue colour goes purple there's protein in it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.99.56.215 (talk) 17:00, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Structural formula of the biuret complex[edit]

Hi, I added an image depicting the Biuret complex taken from the Japanese wikipedia. Now however I see that there are more structural diagrams out there, inculding these two:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Biuretcomplex.png and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Biuret_Test.svg

I am not quite sure if the one I used is the right one. Out of these only Biuret_Test.svg seems to have a source (albeit German)

Which one do you think we should choose?
