Source?[edit]

What is the source used for this list? The KU media guide reflects Kansas with 7 total. The missing one is Robisch in 1971. These teams were named by several sources, AP, UPI, and eventually Big 8 itself. Does this list include all the sources? Ryan2845 (talk) 15:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NPOY[edit]

It seems historically anachronistic to limit NPOY lists to the Naismith (started in 1969) and Wooden (started in 1976) Awards, and exclude the earlier Helms and UPI. The Helms Foundation College Basketball Player of the Year article itself states "the award was viewed as the premier player of the year award one could receive up until the 1960s" when the Naismith was first given. At the very least, if we're going to (wrongly, IMHO) limit NPOY awards to Naismith and Wooden Awards, then the pages must give the start dates for those awards (1969/1976) to make clear it was literally impossible for any player on this list to have been a "NPOY" under that criteria before 1969. (Ironically, it makes very little difference on this particular page since no Big 8 POY won the Helms award.) --Kgwo1972 (talk) 17:50, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Upon further thought, I see your point. I agree that those other NPOY awards should be included because they really were the premier awards. Jrcla2 (talk) 15:13, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
