What kind of electric generation is done by Big Allis? The article mentions "also" having gas turbines and a steam generation plant, but what is the main method of generation, and what is the fuel used? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.104.157.243 (talk) 17:17, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

General clean-up required[edit]

There is a mix-up between Big Allis as the one genset installed in 1965 and the Ravenswood Generating Station as a plant with 21 turbines.

My recomendation is too use the following structure for the wiki articles:

  • Big Allis (Generator): Article dealing with the generator installed 1965, with disambiguation to Ravenswood Generating Station
  • Ravenswood Generating Station: Article dealing with the complete power plant —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pechristener (talkcontribs) 02:46, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ranking in power generation?[edit]

Article states: "At the time of its installation, it was the world's largest energy generating facility. "

- seems to me that a bunch of hydro power facilities were larger. While the article doesn't give the full power output when Big Allis was installed, it states: ""The site overall produces about 2,000 MW (today)".

Presumably the total back in 1963 was the same, or less.

On the other hand the Grand Coulee Dam assembly produces "6809 MW" [a], which was more than three times as much.

The article also has the line "The current installed capacity of Big Allis is around 980 MW." Since this is pretty close to the original PR announcement ("world’s first MILLION-KILOWATT unit"), it seems superfluous and confusing, especially since the article also talks about the "facility" total....
